The SEA Games is the only diadem we have (or had) and this is easily achievable if we put a little bit of seriousness on it. Even with Kai and JC at the helm we cannot even beat Lebanon. What more with powerhouse Australia. And not to mention New Zealand, Japan and China. I'm sure all of us are dreaming for Gilas to be an Asian champ and bring back the glory of Philippine basketball. In this way, even if the Philippines is a third world country we can somehow gain more respect from other countries. For now, we have to settle down and focus what is achievable.
Sorry to disagree with U bro but I don't think we have treated SEA Games lightly. Its the FIBA Asia Cup that we failed to send a competitive & well prepared team in the last editions of that tournament - 2017 & 2022. Remember our SEA Games Gilas team in 2019 coached by Tim Cone? That team was made up of the cream of the crop of the PBA. Malakas pa yun sa ating ill-fated Gilas team that sucked in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, composition wise. Eh kasi feeling ng mga magagaling dyan sa PBA & SBP was that a great performance in the 2019 SEA Games would somewhat appease the disgruntled Pinoy fans who were feeling the stigma of Gilas embarassing performance in the 2019 World Cup. I say, its stupidity.

Yung contention ko nga bro is, parang mas priority pa ng PBA & SBP to send a competent team to the SEA Games than in the FIBA Asia Cup.

This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

What did the KBL guys say on SocMed?
Honestly it feels more like Bolick is being snubbed because he has plans of playing abroad. Yeah a little rest is good considering he's a vital part of our rotation.

The KBL guys weren't happy being benched by Chot but they still want to play for the NT.

RJ and Rhenz definitely deserve a second look after they were able to display the potential Joke Reyes couldn't see. Bolick definitely needs to cut himself loose of the toxic PBA environment that is stifling his growth. He just needs to find a B-League team that suits his style as a ball-dominant point guard.

Every potential top baller in this country needs to avoid the PBA like a plague.

As long as Marcial and Long Hair are in that league, it will remain a hopeless case.

This I say, SBP & PBA haven't taken SEA Games as lightly as they took FIBA Asia Cup lately. I say lately becoz SBP & PBA naman took it seriously during the 2013 & 2015 editions of FIBA Asia Cup (which was then known as FIBA Asia Championship). Hence, we won the silver in those 2 editions of the tournament.

Take the case of last year's SEA Games for instance, that Gilas team had some PBA players -Fajardo, Wright, Troy Rosario, Tautuaa. Yet during the FIBA Asia Cup, no PBA player was made available (except only Poy Erram). See how PBA puts weight on SEA Games over the more prestigious FIBA Asia Cup. Nangamote na nga tayo sa SEA Games for failing to win the gold, instead na bumawi sa FIBA Asia Cup, the roster that they sent in the FIBA Asia Cup was even weaker than the one they sent in the SEA Games.

The main problem about Gilas players playing in the PBA instead of playing in Japan or Korea, is availability to play with the national team in FIBA tournaments which are scheduled during the months of July, August & Sept. - period when PBA season is very much ongoing while all other professional basketball leagues in the world are on their off season.

In last year's SEA Games, the only useful players were June Mar, Wright, Ravena brothers, Navarro, Lopez, and maybe Tungcab. Problem was, the latter three were DNPs in the Indonesia game; instead, Pogoy, Troy, and Montalbo, who could not contribute much, got rotation minutes. Of course the lack of defense on the three didn't help.

The only downgrade from the SEA Games to the Asia Cup was from the center position, because June Mar is better than Erram and Chiu. The rest were upgrades, and we still placed 9th.

Here's my personal comparison of the roster changes (the commonalities were the Ravena brothers, Navarro, and Lopez):

Guards: Belangel, Abarrientos, Parks > Wright, Montalbo, Tungcab
                  Wings: Abando = Pogoy
                  Tweeners: Tamayo, Quiambao > Rosario
Bigs: Chiu, Erram < Fajardo, Tautuaa, Go

Not much of a problem, honestly. Goal is to prepare for the WC. The less ineligibles over 30, the better. Besides, we'd be better off lining up M. Phillips, BGR, and Gray.

It's on the staff to prepare the team as to offense and defensive schemes.

                            • Didn’t realize the Thais have their own potential CStan- a 6’8” half-German player that played for the German U-18 team and played D1 ball in the States, but might be getting his Thai passport soon. Unlike CStan, he’s playing in a higher-tier league inthe Bundesliga.

Look up “Martin Breunig” because for some reason I can’t paste links.
