I haven’t seen Padrigao in any of the photos posted by the team. Issues with acads, maybe? Fans won’t admit it, but if he doesn’t make the team next season, it would be a huge blow. He’s a relatively tall PG who makes good reads and passes. He’s also still the only one who can keep his dribble alive against defenses and has a reliable floater.
Based on their social media posts, here are the guys on the traveling team:
Quitevis
Koon
Garcia
Gomez
Lazaro
Ballungay
Amos
Chiu
Credo
Ong
Espinosa
Gamber
Celis
Nieto
Tuano
Bongo
Brown
Nwabude
I also haven’t seen Obasa and Opena in any photos.

The rest of my first reply was cut off. Anyway, I’m very happy about the inclusion of Celis and I hope he makes the final 16 for S86. He reminds me a lot of Mamuyac with his passing and defense. Bongo also impressed me a lot in the Letran game.
Choosing Ong over Demisana doesn’t really make sense to me, though. Ong has questionable post moves and gets lost on defense. Demisana can catch, has decent footwork in the post, and has accurate timing on blocks. He knows when to help on D, too. Seniority is the only thing Ong has over him, unfortunately.
The inclusion of Garcia also made me raise a brow. Even if he’s already in his last season, he’s still not the heady guard we hoped he would be. Both Garcia and Brown are shoot-first guards who make head-scratching decisions versus pressing defenses. In comparison, the rookie in Josh Nieto brings the ball down better and is steady. Case in point, in the game against Letran, Tab was putting in Brown for offense and then Nieto for defensive sequences during the last two minutes. But Brown committed a crucial eight second infraction in the last minute, so Tab put in Nieto to finish the game. It looks like Nieto has earned Tab’s trust, at least, so I won’t be surprised if Nieto makes it ahead of Garcia and even Brown in the rotation. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

I think we all know better than to count a Baldwin-coached team out. My comments on Demisana versus Ong are just based on what I’ve watched from both during preseason games. The coaching staff has probably seen something in Ong during training, hence the choice to include him, but I personally haven’t seen the potential during actual games.
Honestly, it’s Ateneo’s PG and C rotations that I’m worried about right now. I guess we’ll just see their development as a team once WUBS comes along.
In other news, as expected, Andy Gemao is part of UPMBT’s Serbia training, as reported by Tiebreaker Times. That Bahay-Gemao duo will be something to watch, assuming Bahay stays in college long enough to play with him.You do not have permission to view this gallery.

Ateneo was able to weather this before. But I am not sure they can still do it. At a certain you need talent to succeed. Any system in the world will fail if the talent is not enough. Lets see if Ateneo has a good enough to talent to succeed without a rim protector such as Demisana.
