1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Never said coach gold was a bad coach. Just overrated. If he didnt have those boosters, the support of the community, the kind of players he has on his team. This wouldnt have been the case. He maybe a good coach, but from what im seeing he's more of a player's coach than x and o's coach and as others have pointed out, topex clearly made the adjustments and outcoached gold. He aint even calling the shots on defense. That's back to back season he got outcoached in the finals, and if it werent for that cagulangan 3 in season 84 finals, he may not have even won anything.
Yes we know they shot terrible at the 3, what we don't know is why they still kept jacking it when they were already shooting 56% inside the the arc, not to mention diouf went 10 for 11 in 2pt fgs. Besides its only a 1 possession game, yet they went scorless for 6 minutes in the 4th qtr. La salle's Defense wasnt even that tight, since UP rushed those shots as well. Again did coach gold made the proper adjustments? Now that's on the coaching staff.
Didnt coach pre season as well.
UP all season long was an elite defensive team with physical guards and atheltic bigs. They got their points in transition and wearing you down with depth. They dont have enough shooting with Felecilda and lopez being shakey

still 4 finals appearances with only 1 title to show is akin to a racehorse finishing second in all triple crown races, in racehorse parlance "banderang kapos"
that's how the team seems to be perceived right now as opposed to college basketball powerhouse or champion

That said, any level headed UP supporter would probably agree that there's still a long way before UP can be considered a college basketball powerhouse. At the same time, we can't deny the fact that this Bo/Gold era has yielded acceptable results in comparison to where UP basketball was before.

I'm just really glad I've been able to experience a semblance of success after following the team for almost 20 years.

When you think about it, if Cagu does not make that incredible 3, we could be looking at a 3x bridesmaid finish for UP.
That's how slim the margin between greatness and defeat can be.
The UAAP being a short tournament and having no real lengthy playoff, winning the championship has an element of luck. The trick is to continually put yourself in a position where you are always contending and UP has done a good job at that especially through recruitment.
