  • Quiambao has improved this year but clearly to me, it's Remogat whose the MIP. He was a third stringer last year and he's now the league's (IMO) best PG.

    • Looks like I will see a UP-DLSU finals this season. Both teams are stacked with talents and their coaching staff is pretty decent.

Nash is going beyond hitting the reffing. He even implies that the UAAP is complicit in determining the results of the games. What a sore loser.

I'd have to rewatch the game, but if you look at the 15 freethrows in the 4th, 4 were from deliberate fouls in the end, and I think 2 came from the unsportsmanlike foul (elbow to the throat of Obasa).

Reminds me of the time when one of the Pumarens in UE griped about Ateneo and Kiefer getting lots of freethrows. But if you watched the game, they padded the number of freethrows by committing 4 intentional fouls resulting to 8 more freethrows at the end when the game was already out of reach. In the following games, refs overcorrected and Ateneo got the short end of the calls.
Hindi pa tayo nasanay with Coach Nash being a crybaby with the officiating. Even in the PBA he is calling out officiating often.

But i think they still overachieved regardless of being in the final 4 or not. even without arguably the best point guard in the UAAP in Jerom.

He was good near the end of last season though. Quiambao really transformed his body and Id prefer him over Remogat but in terms of surprisingly decent Id go with Escandor. The Nepo Baby actually had some good games.

Assuming UP, NU and DLSU all win on Wednesday, and DLSU wins over Ateneo on Saturday, there’s still a chance that UP drops to 2nd if NU wins over UP on Sunday. If that happens, DLSU ends up tied with UP for 2nd/3rd, it’s practically going to be a best-of-three affair between the two (first game will be playoff for 2nd, winner gets the twice to beat). Exciting times ahead.

            Edited for clarity.

I think he also mentioned a foul on Manzano by Obasa that wasnt called.

Add the fact that the good games were in big games. Looks like he has some skill, which is shooting.

This is a good example of exposing the younger players to Fiba comp. KQ would have been decent good passing PF if he didnt improve this season. But playing against international comp probably opened his eyes on how far he needed to go. His defense, shooting and handles were inadequate. Against Japan he eventually resorted to hurting people. His passing also was read in that game after the limitations of his shooting and handles were exposed. Lo and behold he worked on the holes of his games. Fascinating also how he worked on his body and explosiveness. He is just 6’5 and not naturally explosive but he can dunk without buwelo when he can gather. His better explosiveness is actually needed so he can score against FSAs. Another good effect of having FSAs.

This is an example of the benefits of "playing up" period.

KQ in high school was the main man in a team with Tamayo and a lot of the other UP stars. But after HS, he went the sandbagging route and started college ball at 21. Meanwhile, Tamayo continued to "play up" improved tremendously and has long gotten that huge bag from the Bleague. Because of KQ's sandbagging, he lost a lot of time in his development trajectory and fortunately did something about it in the offseason. Finding out how much Tamayo makes can definitely be a huge motivator.

Playing Up mentality should be instilled in our elite prospects instead of sandbagging. Young guys should now realize that the old system of playing college until their mid-20s then going to the pba is no longer the only option. Now they can improve as fast as they can and get that bag overseas earlier.

Zero defense to speak off though. To his credit, he is there to shoot and he has done that mostly well when the team needed his shooting.

Is he the lefty shooter? If he is, he kind of reminded me a young Jeff Chan.

Yep, that guy. Wearing No. 18.

Jeff Chan could do more, though. He could create his own shot and pass a bit.

Remogat was only good for the last 2 games of the season wherein he went on a hot streak. He was unplayable for most of the season since he was a loose cannon. He also did not show any signs of the passing and court vision he has been exhibiting right now. How his game has improved and matured over the summer is very remarkable. Everyone knew Quiambao was going to be great. Not to mention KQ is also 2 years older than Remogat.

He flunked his HS requirements . It isn’t cause he waited.

Starting college ball at late 19-20, you can still chalk that up to bad academics (or like the current excuse, the pandemic). But getting a late college start at 21 just means you've been sandbagging earlier. Play Up mentality has to start at the early stages. You can't repeat a grade or get held back if you're passing you're requirements, so failing becomes necessary (an advantage) for those who want to Play Down. There will always be excuses, while those who want to constantly Play Up finds ways. Gemao is a good example.
