  • Great game by Ateneo. Amos was big in the OT period, he's gonna be a big asset for Gilas if he develops well. UP also had no answer for Koon and Malick being outplayed by Obasa underneath was key as well.

That said, I hope for lesser hero ball from JD (he was doing the same during the game against La Salle) and Alarcon. CJ was hot all 4th quarter but it was Torres who played more in OT. Just a weird lineup decision but Coach Gold has earned my trust so I wouldn't question this much. Fantastic games from Abadiano, Cansino, and Belmonte. The rest of the regulars seemed really off but it is what it is.

Hopefully, Lopez is okay and Malick still seems off since that La Salle game where he seemed to slip. UP's still in first place (can't be mad about that) and I hope this loss leads to a better performance next round.

    • what an awesome game between Ateneo and UP. can't want for them to meet again. can't believe ateneo seems to have got it going this early despite a roster revamp. damn.

Honestly cool with him being a 4 as long as he remains sharp from outside.

              Need more sharpshooters like Amos.

201cm (6'7") is already good enough as a 4. Just needs some more work on switching and interior defense (defense in general).

it helps that we have Edu/Kouame who can pick up the slack

                  • Yes I think Amos is really a 4. I think he can still try to aim to be a 3. But his physique doesnt seem to be naturally agile or quick. So he really needs to train to improve quickness and agility. Even if he remains a 4 he still needs to improve them though. Internationally he can be a hybrid PF/SF. He will be overpowered in the paint so he has to make up for it in the perimeter.

I think he has suffered a dislocated shoulder on more than one occasion. I remember a game. It was in the 3rd or in thr 4th. Koon was carrying the team against UP. It was one of those games you realized Koon supplanted Dave. However, a timely shoulder to shoulder hit by Cagulangan stopped it. Koon got hurt and stopped scoring the rest of the game.

I think after that Koon became more hesitant in taking shots with contact. Too bad, he really looked like he would take over Dave.
Well, Koon did his part in closing out UP tonight. Took shots with contact, attacked mismatches, and good shots off the dribble.

Yes. He has to do that. He was a big part of their championship. If UP insists on matching 6'0/6'1 Alarcon on him, he has to make them pay.

Ateneo milked that matchup a lot.

Hope that gets Goldwin to play bigger lineups against La Salle and Ateneo. Yes, Torculas and Lopez have a hard time shooting, but Belmonte shows a good stroke, he can be the floor spacer to put Torculas and Lopez at 3. Chicco Briones has to see more floor time at 3 too.

UP is just too deep. What more next season when Gani Stevens comes in.
I think 7 should transfer if he wants more playing time

                              • And guys were pushing the panic button and calling Amos Troy Rike 2.0 lol.

Great to hear him say in the interview that he has a lot of development ahead of him and that he's trusting his coach. The elite shooting has always been there, but the way he rebounded last night and playing with grit were signs of good growth. I don't mind him being a stretch 4, I think he can develop his strength much further. He just turned 19.

Cansino is pro-ready and I would say Gilas pool-ready. His improved 3-pt shooting has made him difficult to stop. He knew (and had a feeling) he could single-handedly win the game if they let him, thus his taunts. His confidence was on another level.
