there were rumors yrs ago that when Chua takes over, Tenorio will be the coach of UST (once he retires in the pba) the letran stint was sort of an apprenticeship

though i think bal david to la tenorio is just a lateral move

        • As much as Ateneo misses Padrigao, it's actually's Kouame's presence that the program misses the most. As I've said in other forums, it's going to be so hard to duplicate Ateneo's success without Kouame. All of Tab's championship teams with Ateneo were with Kouame as their defensive anchor. Kouame is an elite pick-and-roll defender and he's one of the best bigs in defending the perimeter in Asia right now. Kouame's defense against China in the semis was enough to shift the momentum to Gilas and allowed Brownlee to save his energy to go supernova in the 4th quarter. That's how big Kouame's role was with Ateneo.

He misses Kouame for sure but I think second to that is Padrigao. The team needs somebody who can manufacture points. Koon doesnt seem to be fhe guy.

Both Ikeh and Kouame were raw when they first arrived in the Philippines. However, Kouame's growth rate was faster than Ikeh. I don't know how things will pan out on Obasa.

Maybe ust and dlsu will be a better fit.

In defense of Thirdy, though, he's carved out a nice career in Japan, which I honestly think has a better pro league than the PBA, if only for the imports raising the quality of players. Highest-scoring Asian in his team for 2 seasons. RJ Abarrientos and SJ Belangel had good starts to their pro careers too.

And, there have been a few useful UAAP guys for Gilas. Fonacier and Chan were key shooters for Gilas. Terrence Romeo became one of the best players for Gilas in a while. Carl Tamayo and Will Navarro (who had a good start in the PBA prior to his ACL tear) are good performers for the NT as well. Malonzo performed well in the WC windows.

Honestly, usefulness and potential for the NT matters more to me than just pro success when measuring players.

RJ Abarrientos is the current KBL ROY.

                    • Sorry for having maybe a casual take, but the Ateneo recruits Amos and Gamber are just underwhelming so far.

Amos is dealing with the same faith as KQ last season, you get scouted and your weaknesses get exposed. Its early but just like KQ, he might end needing more time at the UAAP.

I think Amos is still quite young. He is skilled but his body needs to mature more to be a real threat at this level.

Manuel missing a couple and Nelle one FT in OT which is the equivalent to NU 3-point win.

Those Batang Gilas U18 of 2022 (Gamber and Abadam) are not getting playing time. And they are really not playing well also.
