            • TOKYO — Tab Baldwin admits that he doesn’t have a clue on the powerhouses his Ateneo squad will be trying to eliminate if the Blue Eagles are to win the World University Basketball Series

Weird that the article said Ateneo won against DLSU in Davao

They did win the 1st game against DLSU. Maybe just late reporting as the win against CSB was not mentioned (Saturday game).

Tab Baldwin and the whole Ateneo brain trust knew early on that there was a very good chance Forthsky will miss season 86. This was the reason the pg by committee was created. Garcia was outplayed by the new players but kept in the traveling squad as an insurance policy. Fast forward to the Kadayawan tournament. Baldwin wanted another championship but was more interested in preparing the team for the WUBC in Tokyo. The tournament only allow a 12 man roster for each game but the roster can change every game. Given this rule means Baldwin does not have the luxury of 4 Pg, 4 sg, 4 small forward. This is why he has been holding out certain players in games. He already knows their ability of Gomez, Quitevis and Lazaro and needed to see how Bongo and Credo will perform. In the first game, either Espinosa or Nieto sits, Bongo and Gamber also sits.

                          And yet they still won.

                          • Baldwin playing possum with the Sydney coaches. He did not play what amounts to his starting unit and Mason played only limited minutes. The young players showed composure. They gave up an 8 point half time lead but stormed back to take the lead and still hold of the Japanese team headed to the Jones Cup. On to the knockout games of the WUBS. If they keep winning, they avoid the relegation games. In the end of the day, the goal remain winning the UAAP championship. A difficult task when there are as many as 10 new players on the roster.

Sat out 6 players - Balunggay, Koon, Chiu, Gomez, Quitevis (not sure if he's currently injured), Garcia?.

Based on the picture, the 12 who played were: Obasa, Ong, Amos, Lazaro, Bongo, Tuano, Celis, Brown, Espinosa, Nieto, Gamber, Asoro

Ateneo's current pool stands at 18 - Tab will have to cut 2 more players for the final UAAP lineup. Based on overall play in the preseason, I think Asoro (didn't play much) and Garcia (IMO, underwhelmed/overtaken by other rookie guards) gets relegated to team B.

                              • let's not overthink this. it's probably just load management. ever since the school year ended, ateneo has joined summer league after league. and yesterday was just an exhibition. not to mention some players have been getting injured so i think it's just wise to do load management.
