The NCAA right now has 4 potential Gilas guards/wings with size namely Cyrus Nitura, Art Roque, Jomel Puno and Kobe Monje.
Are Roque and Monje a legit 6'4"? Otherwise, they could be shooting guards in Gilas. I only know Nitura's game, which is versatile on offense (hopefully versatile enough to play point), and that Roque can shoot and has a good jump.

In terms of perception, popularity, and marketability, probably. To be fair competition got better and ratings improved. Hopefully talent level will be as good as 10 years ago, were a Ben Mbala led la salle team could not beat Ola Adeogun led San Beda in the PCCL or Fil Oil tourney.

I think Monje is too slow to be a guard.

Yes right about that height. The stark difference between Roque and Nitura is that the latter is the better ball creator and can play the combo guard position. Roque and Monje almost play the same, wings at the 3 position.

In my view, Nitura, Roque, Puno and Monje have shown potential to play wings in Gilas. Then there’s Mapua newcomer JC Recto with the same size, can play the perimeter and had some impactful games for the Cardinals.

which is a no no in up unless you can shoot like cansino or like you say be able finesse your way ala ricci rivero..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
              1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Come to think of it, UP plays closest to how NCAA teams allegedly play. Physical (to a fault a lot of the time, most fouls in the UAAP). Hahahahaha.

I know that the hooligans and punks come mostly from Letran and JRU, but the impression is, the NCAA is more physical.

talentwise the top ncaa players can hang with the best in the uaap, it's just that outside the member schools there's hardly any interest with the league

gma even has to resort to all sort of gimmickry with its analysts and halftime segments

                  • GMA should shape up it's sports program to avoid having an impression of being too showbiz that really turns off majority of the hardcore fans of Philippine Sports..sadly it's so low level right now..won't be surprise if they drop the product one of these days because ratings are not encouraging.

Data shows that when the JRU Heavy Bombers made it to the finals in 2008, there was a 150% increase in its enrollment. Marketing wise the NCAA is still an effective tool for member schools.

Well the target market is the masa. GMA's market is the c,d, and e viewers. You'd be surprise that in some provinces particularly in those far flung areas, GMA is the only available channel.

For me who just wants to watch basketball, i just focus on the games and analysis. Those bayanihan brgy ekek segments, i just turn it off. Infairness to them tho, it makes it easier and more accesible to watch with facebook and youtube livestreams besides the free tv coverage, unlike uaap where you need to register in an app.

Monje started out as a 4 tho so unlike roque and nitura who were wings since the beginning, he's a step slow.
