If Cone is true to his pronouncement that he will play the 12 /14 pool every tourney until 2027, i wont be surprised if half of themmwont even make it to 2027 due to major injuries. Look at the 2013 Fiba Asia team, sino ang umabot ng 40 sa kanila?All retired relatively early due to grind of playing basketball whole year round.
    Never said it was... but this is what they're stuck with unless Cone finds himself in a pinch for any competition. That was actually Tab Baldwin's problem heading into the World Cup qualifiers where "all hands on deck" became "suck Chot's d***". Imagine Chot taking over and Korea didn't withdraw? In Tim Cone's case, that will be on the Feb window of 2026. I'm willing to bet the PBA steps in to make another clusterfuck of a schedule change and maybe do another wave of speical whatevers. Where will Kai, KQ, Carl, Amos, and the ones playing abroad be that time? Otherwise, it'll be Ginebra in Gilas uniforms.

    We're not a Team USA where they can get retired players like Joe Johnson and Isaiah Thomas, G-Leaguers with experience like Quinn Cook and Jordan Bell, or bangkoleros like Luke Kornett and Matt McClung to play against a Canada or Argentina and beat them. That's like sending an MPBL All-star team to play for Gilas and expect they'll beat a Korea or a China. Those games against much lower level opponents are so rare. After that FIBA Asia Cup qualifier against Hong Kong... it'll be the SEA Games against teams with no naturlized players. That's it. Every other competition, an ill-prepped Gilas team can and will lose.

    • I think we need to move on from kobe paras, he already moved on from basketball and is preoccupied living the rockstar life. He hasnt played competitive ball for more than a year and is too disinterested in basketball

        if this is about the 23 for 23 and World Cup 2023, and had his BLeague career been fruitful, I think Kobe would be up for consideration.

        He still has a chance to turn it around. No one expected Dwight will have a better career than him.

        During their time it was Kobe, Thirdy, 1GDL and Ricci everybody was raving about.

        But you're right, Kobe needs to prove himself in the PBA for 2 full seasons before Gilas can consider him again.

              Not that hard to imagine. The PBA probably doesn't give a damn about those FIBA dates that Gilas isn't playing... but let's assume whatever team that makes it pushes a Gilas-filled Ginebra team to a Game 7 in the Governor's Cup Finals, both 21 and 24 are home games.​ Two days after, they start the Commissioner's Cup. They're not driving to NAIA , flying to a stopover in the Middle East/Turkey, and connecting twice to somewhere in Europe... they're driving to Ultra from Meralco Ave anak ng.

              They made it clear they're having a break on Feb for those last two away games against Taipei and NZ... Gilas doesn't have anything after Feb except the FIBA Asia Cup from August 5 to 15 when the PBA doesn't have any specific dates on the All-Filipino Cup other than March to July. So fine, assuming the worst case scenario All Filipino ends July 31 next year and they don't do an effing thing to adjust the PBA season for World Cup Qualifying (basically copy-paste the previous year's schedule). That's just 3 days after the end of the tournament assuming Gilas makes it all the way to the final of the FIBA Asia Cup.

              We don't have a Charles Barkley-like personality that calls out people for being stupid. All their games start late noon the earliest so there should not be an excuse for whatever you call this iteration of the SBP with San Miguel to bitch about the things Tab was complaining about and Chot had the misfortune of messing up. They badly wanted to have a National Team of players who know Triangle shit because that saves them time, they already have the support of those s̶t̶e̶a̶k̶ e̶a̶t̶e̶r̶s stakeholders whether they're UAAP padrinos or PBA Board members. It's going to be another layer of problems if they aim to make the World Cup again with a World Cup window in August, EASL in October, another World Cup window in November, the SEA Games in December, and a final push for the World Cup in Feb... before they run this shit again in August 2027 with the same problem of when to start the PBA.

              • Bennie Boatwright suffers Achilles injury... He will be out for months and possibly he can't participate atleast as practice player for Gilas in upcoming 2nd window of qualifiers in November...

                    We need back up for him.. his injury is very serious matter... We don't know if he can be same as before... He will be like Chris McCollough... Good player but always suffered many injuries that slowed his progress as player..

                        • After the 2018 Gilas-Australia brawl, it seems that FIBA intentionally prohibited them from being grouped together. Is this perhaps the time for them to be in the same group again? Who knows.​

                            after the brawl, australia change their approach.. If it’s tough opponent, they’ll go full throttle.. but if its meh for them, they’ll go easy as to avoid the brawl.. like tamang hapit in tagalog term..

                              Given how corrupt FIBA Asia can get, I won’t be surprised if KSA avoided Australia and NZ.

                                I think Qatar will get automatically qualification because they will host the world cup, even it's unfair.. I think India will be out for Qatar...
