His system is one of the hardest but one of the most effective systems in basketball world.. for now just trust Tim cone..
Newsome will be 36, while Junemar will be 37 in 2027. Brownlee will be 39. Scottie will be 34.

His system is effective but if the motor is deteriorating yes it will run but it might not reach the finish line.

    • Did you watch australia and Serbia and US Australia games in Abu dhabi, these guys conditioning and athleticism are top notch I really commend tim cone on able to bring the slow game internationally
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

Newsome, Brownlee & Junmar may look good at present but since they are now in their mid-30's, pababa na talaga trajectory ng career nila. Sometimes a player's basketball capabilities would suddenly deteriorate especially when he's already in his mid-30's. Bigla nalang bababa laro nya to the point that he's no longer that serviceable in a high level competition.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Watched both games.. the signature defense of australia. Yep conditioning of 3 teams is good.

At that time, Kai, Edu (hoping he's healthy that time), Ramos and maybe Tamayo will have a bigger role and will lead the team.. Quiambao, Oftana and Malonzo will be more better players coming 2027.. but yes, I hope CTC need to add atleast minimum of 2 players for back up plan in case most of those original players will suffer injury that time...

            • I think the SBP should move and identify the best players to be next in line to take over for the aging senior players in preparation for 2027. Personally I would like Mike Phillips to take over Japeth Aguilar's slot. As for Newsome I think it would most likely be Rhenz Abando who takes that slot. And as early as now I hope Andy Gemao gets in and be groomed to be Scottie Thompson's replacement.

This goes against the very idea of keeping a team together for four years with the only way around it being no different from what Chot was doing with Erram, Montalbo, Troy Rosario, Kelly Williams, Oftana, and Pogoy when there weren't any players available. We've already seen Japeth unretire from international play and stand-in for Edu to disastrous results knowing it could have been much worse if Cone picked someone else (it was either going to be Japeth, a 6'5 Arvin Tolentino who's now with Northport, or a 6'4 Jared Dillinger who's semi retired)... and that goes for the entire squad if the SBP is hell bent on being Al Francis' bitch because Cone is convinced he won't have time to teach players he's never handled how to do triangle shit like pinch post, split cut, etc.

As far as finding out who are "the best players next in line", Cone will have a 25-year-old Kai, a 26 year-old Quiambao, a 26-year-old Tamayo, and a 24-year-old Amos... will a 21-year-old Gemao seriously be that much better than Thompson at 34 or RJ Abarrientos at 28 (most likely will be 3 years better under Cone in Ginebra)? With Abando, he's not getting in Gilas if he's not in the PBA. In hindsight, Chot had that 23 for 23 nearly five years prior and ended up with just 4 of them... it was clear after that there were still very good PBA players for last year's World Cup in JMF, Thompson, and Malonzo (who wasn't on anyone's radar until Ginebra snatched him out of Northport)... and it will be no different once Cone goes back to his regular job coaching Ginebra because 3 years too early is a long time to be picking players.

Hard to bet on the future. No one thought that Belo would be a bust like this for one.

I do agree with you with regards to continuity but most sucessful national team programs do invest in their younger players and have youth/junior teams where they develop players who they eventually promote to their seniors team. And I do believe that this isnt the best team Gilas can put together, I think we have that very rare window where we have the height to compete and win in FIBA. Lets just hope the SBP is not sitting around and doing nothing but seeing how they handle our youth teams, it is very underwhelming to say the least.

this is true. time to go all in now. We may never see a time again where we have the luxury of having a Kai Sotto, Dwight Ramos and AJ Edu ever again. Whatever success they'll have will be very hard to replicate for future players, but at least the standards will be raised.

in that list there are 7 other players they might want to reconsider:

Paras, Tolentino, Tuffin, 1GDL, Martin, Thirdy, Bolick

all in all, it turned out 12 out of 23 are playable in FIBA competition.

                          Guards:
                          Robert Bolick
                          CJ Perez
                          Juan GDL
                          Remy Martin

                          Forwards:
                          Dwight Ramos
                          Kobe Paras
                          Arvin Tolentino
                          Thirdy Ravena
                          Ken Tuffin

                          Bigs:
                          Kai Sotto
                          AJ Edu
                          Carl Tamayo

BUT if we really wanted it to be competitive in the FIBA World Cup, we need to make adjustments in all categories to address holes in the lineup.Replace 1 guard (Juan GDL) and 2 forwards (Thirdy and Tuffin), recategorize Dwight as a guard, add the PBA goat.

                          Guards:
                          Remy Martin (if exempted)
                          Dwight Ramos
                          Robert Bolick
                          CJ Perez

                          Forwards:
                          Jordan Clarkson (NP)
                          Jamie Malonzo
                          Kobe Paras
                          Rhenz Abando

                          Bigs:
                          Kai Sotto
                          Junemar Fajardo
                          AJ Edu
                          Carl Tamayo

This would have been a killer lineup built from the 23 for 23 core. It's unfortunate they didn't stick with it.

I understand the stand of Tim Cone of having 12 man to 14 man pool until 2027, for cohesion an continuity ...But i think that is not sustainable. You see half of the team are players 34 and above , and with PBa palyed almost whole year round , injury is just waiting to happen on Brownlee, Junmar, Japhet, Newsome et al... Walang pahinga sila for almost 2 years, it will take its tool on their body.. When are we integrate new players when another pklayer gets injured. Point is we can add , 2 to 4 players are Practice players/ Reserve players, attending the training, with the understanding that they may not be lined up right away. I also think that we should reserve our older guys for major tournament like Asian Games , Fiba Asia Cup, OQT. We dont need to play Junmar, Brownlee , Newsome against Hongkong or in SEA Games . Parang sa team USA , they dont play the Stars like Bron, Curry , Durant, they reserve them for Olympics or major tourney. If Cone is true to his pronouncement that he will play the 12 /14 pool every tourney until 2027, i wont be surprised if half of themmwont even make it to 2027 due to major injuries. Look at the 2013 Fiba Asia team, sino ang umabot ng 40 sa kanila? All retired relatively early due to grind of playing basketball whole year round.

Not bad batting average, what matter most is that the three must have is in the list.... SOTTO, EDU and RAMOS. No one can replace them from the PBA. Without favoritism, Bollick and Tuffin shpuld have been in the pool and if Marin is Fiba eligible he should be in the team also.
