I have a feeling that the South Korean national team will also assemble & play some friendly matches either late July or early August.
    Let's see next year.

SoKor don't really have international tournaments this year, since SoKor was disqualified from last year's WC (and disqualified from this year's OQT).

As for Japan, Olympics is in July 27. The final for the BCL is tonight, so the Japanese can have ample rest before a month-long training camp.

On this note, after the 6 qualifying games, we might be fine with two weeks of rest and a month of training.

Oh how I wish Gilas would really get that 1 month full time training for next year's FIBA Asia Cup.

I never talked about "players" not having an off season. What I was whining is the fact that the PBA has a brief off season (perhaps barely 2 months only) & it's calendar isn't synchronized with the FIBA calendar, hence we struggle in forming a "well prepared" Phi national team, which is something that most of our Asian counterparts have no trouble doing.

Korea will have their series of tune up games vs Japan again next month...

Hope it ends long before the FIBA Asia Cup, maybe mid-June at the latest. We need to give Gilas time to rest, train, and contact injury replacements. Also, less injury risk right before the tournament.

                • if Gilas qualifies, I hope SBP will arrange tune up matches against European teams or African teams instead of Asian teams another match with Turkey will be a good tune up match

It's possible as Gilas is now primarily an SMC-backed team. Chualay and Marcial work in tandem so the latter should have no issues cooperating.

I hope CTC reconsiders expanding the pool to at least 16 for the Asia Cup. It's a longer tournament and we need to have some depth.

A 12-team pool works for the windows as those are only two-games.

Or it's ok with Asian teams maybe against Japan or NZL.. another one if we play even against low level European teams such as Portugal, Albania or England...

Unfortunately CTC will still stick with his 14 man roster...

this can work until FIBA Asia Cup 2025. Beyond that Cone must make major adjustments in the pool. He needs to replace 6-7 players if we want to be competitive in WC 2027.

I don't think CTC will replace half of his line up.. I see only 2 or 3 players will be replaced.. his triangle is hard to learn.. it takes years to learn the system.. or actually I don't see he will replace his current roster.. maybe additional players.. but that's Tim cone, who are we to decide his strategy for Gilas? I just hope that Baltazar and Abando should be there.. I know CTC wants a two way players, these two are good 2 way players... Although RJ and Go have a legit chance now since they are now playing in Ginebra and will learn the system of CTC moving forward...

if he sticks with this core until 2027 we end up with one-dimensional Oftana, Tamayo and KQ if they don't adjust their game to fit at the World-level, and almost 40 year old Junemar and Newsome. It also remains to be seen if Scottie will go back to his old form, his injury seems to be very serious. Cone will eventually see the need to replace half of that group after 2025.

Newsome and Junmar still serviceable until 2027.. and I hope Tamayo, oftana and KQ will improve their defense.. still they have time to improve those things since our target is 2027 WC.. and we all know CTC.. he doesn't want to restart again and change half of the roster.. the only possible is cutting maximum of 3 players... His system is one of the hardest but one of the most effective systems in basketball world.. for now just trust Tim cone..
