A 3-week full time training for Gilas prior to the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup tournament proper won't be bad considering that the team will have around 10 to 12 days of training/playing in each of the 3 qualifying windows of such tournament (2 more qualifying windows are left as the 1st window was held last February). Considering that we only have a small pool of Gilas players (no more than 15 players), I think mas madali maka develop & establish ng cohesion/chemistry among the players.

It would have been better sana if we can have the team play in the 2024 Jones Cup where the team may be given about 2 weeks of full time practice prior to the tournament. That would surely help develop/improve the team's chemistry/cohesion plus giving the players especially the younger ones the need experience of FIBA-like playing environment. Never mind is Kai Sotto would probably miss the Jones Cup as he is expected to be in the NBA summer league by that time.

A 5 to 6-week training period would be very good but knowing the situation in Phi basketball, it isn't possible. Our B-league & KBL Gilas boys would be available by mid-June next year. The same could not be said about our PBA Gilas players. If it would be an all-Bleague-KBL Gilas team in next year's FIBA Asia Cup, then Gilas can train full time by 6 to 7 weeks. But we need those PBA Gilas players eh.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. Atleast the core is already there… those who playing in OQT this summer and for Qualifiers will also be the part of FIBA Asia cup next year… the familiarity is there already… it’s not like before that we only assembled a team separately in different competitions.. this is what most national teams do, because even they have also problems with the schedules of their members of the pool… that’s why even 3 weeks is enough to prepare for fiba asia cup next year since the core are already familiar since CTC assigned as head coach back in January…

We still need to rest our players, though. Rest + training dapat, e.

Pero sa bagay, the key ones are Kai, Dwight, JB, Newsome, and AJ. Most of the PBA guys bar Scottie might just be backups or role players, so they might not need as much rest. At saka, the FIBA minimum of 28 is a rule if the PBA and SBP don't agree on a shorter or longer term.

As for the 2019 reference, at least on paper, this squad is better now than a lineup with Almazan, Pogoy, Troy, Barroca, post-Dust Kiefer, Lee, past-his-prime Gabe, and overweight Blatche. Maybe the squad quality and chemistry will compensate.

Anyone outside KSA planning to go there to watch?

I’d go but I live in America and PTO is a disgrace here. Tickets and hotels are gonna cost a fortune too.

Also, it’s Saudi. Not really a fun place to go.

            I get your point bro.
That is why its really a must that a basketball country's premier pro league must have a least 3 months of off season & which league calendar must be synchronized with FIBA calendar.

Our national team players really need to get some "rest" even a brief one during the off season of whichever pro leagues they play before they train/practice/play with the national team.

Take the case of the B-league & KBL, by early or perhaps mid-June off season na nila. So Japan & South Korea can give their national team players about 2 weeks of rest after their respective leagues' season, then the national team players assemble for training camp & be given around 5 to 6 weeks of training or preparation prior to a FIBA tournament like the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup which wud be held August next year.

So we can bet the Japanese & Sokor national players wud be well rested & well prepared for the 2025 Asia Cup.

How can we do that with our PBA Gilas players with the PBA 2024-2025 season expected to end around late June or maybe early July while the 2025 Asia Cup kicking off early August?

Most of PBA guys are just back up players... Ramos, Kai, Edu are main players alongside Brownlee, who will get rest since the final conference will be All Pinoy cup.. And you know Pinoy ballers even just 10 day rest they will be fine already... Matiisin mga Pinoy eh....

There are sure guarantee Filipino fans will watch the tournament since there are many Filipinos living in Jeddah, particularly workers... The game between Gilas vs KSA qualifier match in Jeddah before was sold out.. The capacity of the stadium is around 10 -12k seaters.. For sure it will filled by Syrians, Jordanian and Lebanese fans too since it is closer to their respective countries (especially the Lebanese)...

                • We should really go all out to win the gold medal in this tournament. I believe we have a good chance of achieving it given enough preparation, quality training, then we'll have our best players & of course some luck.

Australia usually doesn't send its elite players for this tournament, hence the Boomers are beatable. Nevertheless, even without its NBA & Euroleague players, Australia is still a tough nut to crack. I feel Japan & Lebanon are the teams to beat, with China, Jordan, New Zealand & Korea being no pushovers.

I think it's about time we bring this Continental title back home. We should carryover the momentum we got from winning the Asian Games basketball title last year.

I think our line-up is the tallest ever Philippine team to play FIBA & international basketball. We have come along way from being among the smallest/shortest team to be among the biggest/tallest team in Asia-Pacific basketball circle. Our opponents could no longer outsize us the way they used to do years or a few decades ago.

Before we could ever aspire of ranking among the top 16 teams in the world, we must first prove to everyone that we are the No. 1 team in Asia-Pacific.

                  It's our time to shine.

Gold medal might be hard since Australia is very good.... And there is Lebanon, their core is on their peak and they believe they can beat Australia, after nearly won last 2022 FIBA Asia cup, Jordan will be tough w/ RHJ leading the team, China might parade better Naturalized player to be competitive again, Japan is always tough, Korea, NZL and Iran are also tough teams too.. And there are teams such as KSA, Bahrain and even Taipei might make some noise, especially KSA being host country, The tournament will be opportunity to promote the sport there and put basketball as their 2nd sport after football if they perform good there...

See what the Chinese national team is doing during the off-season of the CBA. This is possible becoz the CBA has about 4 to 5 months off season & its calendar is synchronized with FIBA calendar. Imagine the Chinese national team training/praticing & playing for about 2 months during the June-July-August period. If they do it every year then U bet their national team will easily establish cohesion & chemistry. By the 2027 FIBA World Cup, the team would be more than prepared & ready to rumble.

I think other Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Iran, Jordan, etc. will have the same luxury becoz their respective pro leagues' calendars are synchronized with FIBA calendar. This is what I've been pointing out time & time again.

The same could not be said about our Gilas team & the PBA.

Well, the current system of CTC is the perfect choice for Gilas, since we all know PBA will not adjust… atleast they are already know each other for major events and they have established chemistry already…

The BCL are now in the semis, right? So malapit na matapos ang liga/tournament na yun. I think the Japanese national team are going back to its training camp sometime in July & might play some exhibition or tune-up games in the coming months. I have a feeling that the South Korean national team will also assemble & play some friendly matches either late July or early August.

Well, iba pa rin yung in every year during the June-July-August period your national team gets to assemble for a 4 to 5-week training camp plus playing friendly or pocket tournaments. If your national team team can do it every year for a 4-year cycle, then that's a huge help. It is where a national team truly establishes cohesion/chemistry & getting the feel of the FIBA game. Yun ang magiging lamang sa atin ng other Asian teams like China, Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, Japan, Korea.
