If your projected core does materialize, that's pretty much a mix of youth and age. Average age of 28.33, right around an average age of a NT. That looks to be the rotation. Need a 3rd center, and two of either a backup ballhandler, a long wing defender, or a shooter.

Junmar will be the 3rd center... And i'm sure the line up that CTC announced will be the line up for 2025 FIBA Asia cup, You know CTC, He doesn't want late additional players, especially if the tournament is approaching... Hoping Tamayo and KQ will improve their shooting more...

      • There should be a way to add Balti & Lopez to the pool. Whoever their handler is, I hope the SPB is reaching out to them.

The issue is there is no pool, probably just temporary replacements in case on injury. Hopefully they allow them to be practice players. And in Balti's case, he could be AJ's injury replacement if unhealthy.

Why isn't there a pool in the first place anyway?

CTC wants a team. Twelve main guys who ideally stay together and build cohesion. More likely though is changes occur over time but gradual change instead of a pool system wherein quick changes can occur.

I get the idea but imo should be 15! The last three can be reserved for the top amateur players who are willing to accept the role. Since I don't see Lopez & Balti as reserved, Chiu, Raven, and Alas would be perfect.

                • I have a feeling that after the 1st window, coach Tim will name additional players to transform this 12-man team into a pool, perhaps an 18-man pool.

I feel this 12-man roster that coach Tim has named will make up the core of the Gilas pool that will be regular fixtures of the national team in the next 4 years or so. Obviously there are a No. of names which are not part of that 12-man roster that also deserve to be there - Jordan Heading, Rhenz Abando, Robert Bolick, Justin Baltazar.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Balti is the best defensive PF we have there and even can play C. JF, Kai and Tamayo have not been excellent defenders for their position against higher comp. Well it’s a long time since we saw Carl but what do we if AJ is injured. Can we be certain that a frontline of JB and Malonzo can handle it alone?

So I dont really think it’s set the12 will be the ones repeesenting us in the end. There are too many things that can happen and too many good players left out. I really think that politics is the reason why guys like Balti, Heading and Bollick are out. I hope in 4 years they will fix their relationship with PBA/SMC so they can be picked.

The team doesnt have a lights out shooter. KQ is good but at this point he can be game planned. Heading was the sole local who was scoring in the Dubai finals. I cant believe you will pick KQ without picking him unless politics was also considered.

                    • I have a feeling that CTC doesn't want to make a pool because he hates having guys training/working/sacrificing only to be cut at the last moment.

With having a set 12, there's no cuts. If a spot arises, then that's the only time you get another player who is guaranteed a spot.

Balti, Lopez, Navarro, Bolick, and Heading are worth considering in the next windows. I feel the 12-man roster is initially for the 1st window only and will be modified later depending on how the team performs.

I don’t expect a new NP until after the Asia Cup 2025. That tournament has Justin Brownlee written all over it.

They need to prioritize a 6'10+ versatile big like Boatwright or 2014 Blatche.

Same thought bro. I think coach Tim just named 12 players so as to best achieve cohesion/chemistry on a limited period of time of preparation for the 1st window of 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. I've always believed that the more players you name in a pool, the harder to achieve cohesion/chemistry. I say its easier to achieve cohesion in a 12-man roster than in a 20-man roster.

The bigger pool of players is ideal when the team has sufficient time of preparation or if we are talking about a 4-year cycle program like what coach Tim & SBP planned for Gilas.

I got feel that CTC will not tap reserve players that hasn’t know his system yet… I feel CTC will tap players who already knows his system.. so don’t expect Heading, Abando or Baltazar will be pick unless changes happens… maybe he will tap his boys from Ginebra or Arvin Tolentino.. so that he will not having a hard time to teach players from the scratch… maybe Mav Ahamnisi has a chance under CTC

                            • I’m not a ginebra fan but I hope that will navarro will be traded to Ginebra and then Navarro will be integrated to the system of CTC, so that if he will tap to be part of Gilas in his 4 year tenure as Gilas coach, he will not having a hard time to adjust… What do you think?

I think by the time other reserve players will be necessary, this core will have learned the system. So it won't be that hard to teach. You have the other guys teaching it for you.

At saka, Cone did say "get the best." The fact that only 7 were retained from the Asiad team, and that we added 5 non-PBA players (although Cone had worked with them in the past) kinda shows that Cone and Atty. Dy are willing to consider non-PBA guys as among the best. Also, Cone has worked with Heading and Abando in the past as well, so I think they're familiar with his defense.

Although, you might have a point with Mav, as he can shoot and create his own shot. Thing is, he's already 32, and he'll be 34 by the time this Asia Cup rolls around, and 36 by the time of the WC (if we do qualify), so that might hurt our continuity a bit.
