  • I think its safe for Josh to rest his main guns. Less than 24 hours before we face Japan.

    • That’s what you get for tanking.

Korea seemed they like their chances if they finished 3rd in their group, which they did. Jordan finished second and will face the Aussies in the QF. PHL bracket, on paper, is easier than Jordan's. PHL will face Japan in the QF.

          • Congrats for the win, first time to win vs Korea in U-16 competition. 5 boys scored in double figures, and team registered 26 assists. Very Un-Reyes like. Good job, Josh's assistants. LOL

            Good luck vs Japan

            • PHL had 23 offensive rebounds, while Korea grabbed 22 defensive rebounds.

              • The boys are playing better D by the day. Saw that spark in the Kazakhstan game and we saw it again last night. I think if we harness that D we have shown we can play, Japan is beatable.

                • A rather unusual pinoy youth team. It can do 3-point bombing, and has decent defense. But u16 kids balling can never be comparable to men's balling. Our team performs well for its size. It will be sorely tested against a much bigger team like australia, or even new zealand. Against those two physically better teams, we can find out whether the coach is not just for show. The last big team we had, the edu-sotto group was still a more competitive team. Edu of course had his legs down him.

I dont think that the japanese team can beat ours. They are too small. Our boys are quicker on defense too. With consistent play like the one shown against korea, this team is plus 10-20 against our nt.

                  • Thank U coach Josh for proving me wrong last night.
Please prove me wrong once again tonight. I'll be very very happy to be proven wrong.

"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

The basketball gods are angry on tankers.

Jordan's route seem easier than that of Pinoys as Jordan only has Malaysia to beat in the qualification to the quarterfinals (though the game vs. Malaysia was close). But Jordan is facing mighty Australia in the quarterfinals in which it has almost zero chance of winning.

I think it's obvious Korea deliberately loss its game vs. Jordan thinking that it has a good chance of beating the Phi in the qualification to the quarterfinals thus setting up a lighter quarterfinal match up with Japan instead of mighty Australia.

                      But such gamble backfired.

                      • Ludovice's 7 threes ties the U16 record since the stats was officially archived in 2013, the boys also scored 21 second chance points of 23 offensive rebounds

DOHA (Qatar) - For the first time ever at the youth level in FIBA competitions, the Philippines defeated Korea to advance to the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2023.

Congratulations to Philippines U16 team for dominant win 95-71. They were more talented and better athleticism. If there is consolation, our players can learn from Philippine better guards in the game tape to help them improve.

We had problems with your full court press. I think our guards learned more from your guards.

Thank you but our pressure defense never really mattered in the game. What I like in Philippine U16 team is their ability to play no position basketball and the guards crash boards. It will be good if Edi Daniel and the rest of our players study the game carefully.

Problem with running a full court press non-stop: your players get burned out.

Especially if they are U16 with bodies not yet fully developed.
