Wembayama averaged 6.5 points (2FG: 37.3%, 3FG: 30.3%), 3.8 rebounds, and 5.5 PIR in 13 EuroLeague games last season.
So Far he is dominating an inferior league like the French league.
In his home country of France, Wembanyama played for Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 in LNB Pro A, the top level of basketball in the country. In 33 games during his 2022-23 season, he averaged: 21.6 points per game. 10.5 rebounds per game.

21 and 10 averages against in-their-prime Afro-French ballers ain't so bad. But I agree, it would have been more convincing if Wemby got to ply his trade in ACB Liga Endesa, or if he got to play more at the Euroleague level. Nevertheless, those Euroleague rookie numbers grinded out against Europe's top ballers don't look so bad either.

I am amazed at the publicity given to a guy who has proven practically nothing in Europe and seems to be the Second Coming.
Luka Doncic at the age of 18 dominated the Euroleague and NBA analysts did not take him into account, when they did not dismiss him and despise him.
He smells singe to me, not only because he looks like a fragile player, but because with his physical build, he probably has the same problems as Rudy Gobert on defense.
I think that last year he inflated to the stratosphere and he chose to play in a minor league so as not to lower his value.
If instead of 20 points per game in a mediocre league, he scores 10 in a league that is much more similar to the NBA in terms of professionalism, surely he would not be the number one pick in the draft.

From essentially a fan outsider I wouldn't make much of their takes, I truly trust the amount of homework and analysis that NBA scouts put into evaluating prospects, the Spurs do an incredible in depth assessment.
look at how bad Rupert and Diengs stats are, yet both could be lottery picks, so it begs the question, what are they seeing that the ordinary fan does not? Any why are the same stats by another player not valued in the same way?
Here are a few comments said. " This is why Rupert is rated so highly, after pressing a ball carrier and forcing him to change direction twice in 2 seconds.
Wembly , he's the 1st player Ive seen go from free-throw line elbow guarding a man and cover easily distance o weak side help and block a player easily driving to hoop or shooting from corner 3. , That's what 8 feet wingspan does matched with foot speed
Don't forget the draft is all about upside , that is why Div 1 seniors despite dominating atats are not drafted as high as freshmen with unimpressed stats..
having said thst I don't think Wemby will be an all star level player in 1st two years , especially offensively.
it's really the defense where he could be an all defensive team player in his first few yearsLast edited by DAdmiral; 05-24-2023, 09:22 AM.

this video alone shows why Wemby is viewed with so much hype, this has nothing to do with stats.
