Yup i think it's a mistake to open the bank account for the next 2 years, not only will you be timing investment incorrectly ( while Wemby is still developing) , but you could actually slow down the development of the younger players , with a star ... that is why the Spurs eventually separated ways with guys like Dejonte and Demar..

in a weird, drunken state last night. i just noticed that Brett Brown is with the spurs again (like i said, i dont like them so i dont follow them). i wonder if Coach Brett would talk Pop to get Benny Simmons in the agreement that Benny ditch his brother as a shooting coach and follows whatever Chip tell him? Simmons contract should be until next season only, so if that experiment doesn't pan out, they can just let him walk. But the thing is, Simmons will set everybody up on the court and can further make the defense better. Wemby Sochan and Benny. obviously, shooting will go down the drain but Simmons played his best seasons under his godfather.

watching Jokic distribute the ball, set screens and give drop passes after the screen is a sight to behold. Though he is not that athletic, his movements are so fluid!

first off, it sucks that Wemby is going to Spurs because I am a Suns fan.

however, because I know what a potential player Wemby can be, I am actually happy Coach Pop will spend a few years with him.

just to add my thought which isnt any different to anyone who has any idea how Spurs org does things, they will do a 1 year feel it out process, and really plan things from there. if roster stays the same but with Wemby, they will most likely not be a play in team though they'll be sniffy for it. why? playmaking and shooting is sorely lacking. Another area is defense that Wemby (and a year more experienced Sochan and Vassell) will change overnight.
whether Dave's prediction below becomes true or not, i hope they extend Jones to a decent team friendly contract and sign a veteran who can help the team be better but really hand hold Wemby in the court. i dont know the cap space Spurs has but i think they can sign for almost 2 max contracts. i doubt they'll sign a long term superstar this coming off season unless its on a discount. but they'll sure add veterans to hopefully accelerate the development of Sochan and Wemby. not necessarily compete for a chip. if they enter playin\off, sure. they will not tank anymore but they wont go crazy and sign Harden and Middleton. or we can be wrong and they sign Kyrie. highly unlikely, but i hope they do as a Suns fan

There's a video saying that Wemby is actually a subpar outside shooter right now. That means developments should be the focus for the next season. I don't necessarily agree that the guys they have now are good building blocks. Many of those guys have low ceiling. Keldon and Jones are examples of those. Sochan is a high ceiling guy and one you would like to see how much he develops next year. Vassell is not bad but I'm not sure how much room for growth he has.

The Spurs should use their succeeding picks to get high ceiling guys that can complement Wemby. When he starts going in his 2nd or 3rd year then you look for veteran help. If you look at GS, they drafted players that complemented Curry in Klay and Green. And when they couldn't get over Lebron and the Cavs that is the only time they traded for a superstar in Durant.

I actually agree, Keldon , Trae, Graham, , basically the whole team excluding Sochan and Vassel use for trade bait (draft capital), you need players with greater upside ..of course don't just let them unless you get some decent quality in return ..
Victor and Pop will attract decent quality FA, and Spurs have cap space .( but has to be used wisel, not on past prime stars on big pay checks)

I don't think the Spurs organization wants Kyrie near Wemby tho, he might influence him in some manner lol. Really exciting to see how wemby performs in his first year, as you mentioned his defense is a game changer. Maybe add a bradley beal in the future and 1 more max contract (dame dollar?)

Spurs/Pop are always big picture. They popularized load management, they are not after meaningless wins.

I think they will be patient when it comes to building around Wemby and cautious when it comes to his health. I'm thinking, they will build up and strengthen his body first and not try to rush him, while at the same time slowly acquire/develop pieces around him. It won't be like the Duncan era where it was instant impact because Duncan was a 4-year college player and they had a veteran Admiral.

You wait out the current era of (aging) Warriors and Lakers, prime of Giannis, Jokic and Celtics. Use the time to build and develop, no rush.
