The way PBA measures imports, lying down, can add to their height a bit. They could always get a foot spa though

That's why, for me, height limit is ridiculous. Imports and teams are doing ridiculous stuffs. They are limiting teams from selecting their reinforcements. Let them choose based on their needs.

Ridiculous, indeed. I mean, if they can't scrap it, they could just increase the limit, say 7'3" for Commissioner's then 6'9" for Governors'. That way, teams would have less issues on adding ceiling to their roster on both conferences.

206cm+ imports would mightily solve teams having issues protecting the rim, like RoS, NLEX, Converge, and Phoenix, unless they'd prefer playing small ball. It might also help their more mobile 196-199cm bigs move to 4, and get more used to playing that position.

Exactly. It's for the betterment of PHL's taller playing positions moving forward. Long-term goal is exactly what you've mentioned and has been proven to be highly doable upon the arrival of guys like Balti, Carl, Navarro, Lopez, et al, in the FIBA scene.

            • but increasing the heights of imports would limit the effectiveness of Fajardo and Thompson, Chua doesn't want that to happen hahaha

              • 2 imports would be better but none of the teams can afford it sadly

Not necessarily for the betterment of our big players. I don't like to force things. It will go naturally. If you put one or two imports without restrictions, the possibility that coaches and local players adjusting their game to fit in with the imports is pretty certain.

The second import could be from UAAP or other collegiate leagues here in the Philippines. It can also be one from Asia (Sakakini, Geramipoor, Zaid Abbas, Ali Haidar, Zhigulin, El Darwich).

A PBA that goes for a solid 5-year run where 6'8"-6'10" world imports with effective mixed perimeter/inside game, each paired with 7-foot rebounding demons and rim-protectors - both types running rampant in the PBA - I believe will dictate an irreversible (I hope) trend that would be felt across all levels of basketball in the PHL.

I believe such shift would see our young 6'6"-and-above kids strive very hard and do whatever it takes to achieve FIBA continental/world level perimeter skill set all while still in the amateurs just to standout and become serious 1st round PBA draft prospects, as it would be one of the surest ways to enter the league by then.

                      • Pba should adapt, Converge should be based in Pampanga and have its home games there.. that makes them compensate with smc and mvp loaded teams, other pba teams should do the same like phoenix (davao), this provincial teams will cheer for their own teams no matter what and they will cheer the underdogs.. have some ref drama too..Have this pba players have the difficulties playing off the road frequently

Handicap rule should apply to lower 2 teams..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                        1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Import’s don’t have to be former NBA or Division I players.

There are a fuckton of ballers in Eastern Europe and Africa willing to play for ⅓ of Brownlee’s salary.

                          • I wonder why other asian leagues like KBL and B. League don't have 7ft as a import on most of their team. Even their NP in national teams are not 7fts.

Agree. They have 6'9/6'10 mobile stretch bigs. I think Blackshear of Hiroshima is among the tallest at 6'11 but he is mobile both on defense and offense. 7footers who are good at either defense or scoring are probably in the NBA or in Euro league.

If I were them I would naturalize the guy. But it seems their NPs are all white with the exception of Ira Brown.
