  • I won't be surprise if Gilas beats Lebanon this month.
2023 is when teams pull out the A main team for the World cup, it's only now that you will see the true glimpse of ceiling potential for the World cup.
This is logical cause obviously the elite top players have been restricted by availability issues , and besides they're already qualified. It's now the REAL season

Hard to choose between Mason and Carl, however I think June Mar takes the place of one of them. I wanna see both in the Final 12, I don't mind playing small every now and then. Just need enough bigs to box out.
I actually have him for my wishlist this window
Mason and Malonzo I believe makes Tamayo and Balti expendable

      Sotto 7'1
      Aguilar 6'9
      Brownlee 6'6
      Ramos 6'4
      Iskati 6'0

      Fajardo 6'10
      Tamayo 6'7
      Malonzo 6'6
      Parks 6'4
      Perez 6'1

      Heading 6'1
      Amos 6'7

P.S. I also hope that Gilas can move on from Pogoy and the Ravenas. Lopez and KQ both have potential but not this year (window).
I would even have Schonny in lieu of Tamayo just to test him this window

Just put it simply Lebanon is not a serious 2nd round WC contending team (never was), while NZ is consistently is and will be.
Let's be honest aside from wanting to promote Asia FIBA basketball, the qualifiers and Asia cup are really not taken seriously by top tier talent (just like team US doesn't take it seriously but prioritizes WC and Olympics), teams just field enough decent players to qualify (nothing more) , which they have qualified naman. These teams.also don't prepare much for window games (like 1 practice then play right away)

Bottom line is this , there are tier levels of serious competive levels in the world cup.

        There are medal contenders (Australia)
There are 2nd round contenders (Nz)

And let's be honest accurate NO Asian team was a a serious 2nd round contending team in the World Cup since 2000. ( the results confirms this)
Nah... I have a feel this time atleast 2 Asian teams will make it to the 2nd round this time, while your NZL will not make it to the 2nd round... even South Sudan will beat your overrated team....

Agreed. The Ravenas offer nothing special along with Pogoy.

Now that's opinion, not actual previous results and not common accepted strength of how others view strength of teams.
It's well accepted thet Asian teams are not expected to be competitive 2nd round contenders, while NZ is always considered a threat to make 2nd round. In fact NZ is one of only 5 nations to make the 2nd round consistently from 2002 to 2014 (4 editions)

What you're predicting is an outliner, (and litterally a 1st for Asia this century!)

But I admit if Japan playing at home puts it's potential pieces together in a cohesive unit it has a shot of making history as 1st nation in Asia to make 2nd round since 2002.

Lebanon and the rest (except China if they get a NP NBA player), simply do not have the talent pieces to start with, so don't have upside (just relying on cohesion as they prepare regularly together)
There really tier levels of available pieces , which are confirmed by the volume of players who make major leagues (Euro , NBa , Div1)

              • The NBL semis ends Feb 19 at the latest , this is great news making available most of the Tall Black (not Breakers) for the 6th window

While those who don't make semis (which Is at least 15 in the Nz pool will be available from the 12th of February

                • Meanwhile B-league takes a break on February 13, hence our B-league Gilas boys can train with the national team along with guys like Tamayo, Quiambao, Jerom Lastimosa, Schonny Winston, & maybe Kai Sotto by Feb. 15.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

                  • I think the floated final roster was a mock lineup. Just realized the games are still more than two weeks away and the team hasn?t practiced as a whole pool yet.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

It’s the same guys with a few additions. I would assume chemistry is already there since the core has been retained. Not to mention JB has been practicing with the team since the last window.

Not sure if this is a wild take but I don’t see the Ravenas making the final cut again.

Not really wild take considering the competition for their positions. They are in the bubble, so to speak. Personally, I see Thirdy having the better chance to make the cut between them brothers. I hope the staff have seen the Strong vs Al Riyadi game where Arakji’s backcourt partner erupted for 42 points. This is where Thirdy’s defense could come in handy, of course whenever Ramos sits. Coach Chot might go Pogoy, though.

Newsome? He’s got size and Saoud is only 6’1.

We switched it last time where Scottie defended Arakji’s backcourt partner and Dwight handled Wael. It worked to some extent.

Well, that’s what the pool is for. In the end they’re the ones who’d choose. If it goes down to those 3, I think Coach Chot picks Pogoy.

                            • So Lebanon plays Gilas on 24th and NZL on 27th, will be interesting what the record will be ( 2-0, 1-1, 0
-2) given both Gilas and NZL look better than previous windows , while Lebanon is at Asia cup peak form.
The lead up to the WC and World cup itself ( which is like the playoffs , serious side of season) is where you see the true real strength of teams .
The earlier windows and Asia cup are really all postering and experimental like pre season for club teams.

I don’t think Chot will field a tall lineup at the beginning. He only does right at the end when we have the lead.

                                So Starters are:
                                Kai
                                Brownlee

                                Scottie

                                2nd unit
                                Japeth
                                Amos/Tamayo
