I am wondering why Pba is not considering Invitational tournaments. (Are they?)

And if we have invitational. Who will we invite?

I prefer european/american teams. But it is a long shot

So maybe Strong Asian and African teams will do

I remember the last time we had a invitational (mid 2000s i think, under Noli Eala), we got a mediocre Serbian team Novi Sad who only went here to hunt girls at Pasay and Angeles. And they were way out of shape since its their off season. In fairness the Korean team (Yonsei) was decent, while the Chinese team and the Philippine team (that Cebuana Lulhlier team that lost to the Paranaque Jets) were terribad

It will be fun for the fans,to see their favorites push to the limits and hopefully overcomes it.I would like one team in Asia or Aus/NZ and one European team,or an all Asia and Australian team, with the PBA employing the 2 import quota.

            Yonsei, you mean Yonsei University?

Also I don't think we need invitationals in the PBA, our teams get scrims from Korean teams for example.

yup Yonsei University, this was in 2003, with jilin (China), Yonsei (Korea), Novi Sad (S. korea) and Cebuana Lhulier-RP Team were the guest teams

WTF the guest teams combined for 2 wins (Novi Sad and Cebuana with 1 each

And the following year when Eala implemented the 2-conference season, they had the University of British Columbia in Canada and a selection team from the North American Basketball League as guest teams in the Fiesta Conference (Imports height limit is 6'6), the 2 guest teams were seeded in a single round quarterfinals which is split into 2 groups, both guest teams went home winless

                • I think because during that time, our PBA did not make enough due diligence to invite the right teams. Most teams brought here were college teams, who I think were not even 3rd best (i assume). Maybe they have the thinking that PBA is a good league but not strong enough to bring in the more stronger teams. Ayun, ginawa tayong pangtraining ng mga bata nila.

PBA doesn't do due diligence period. Long hair and company are content to wallow in mediocrity so as long as they're the big fish in a small pond named the Philippines. It's alarming when Youtube accounts find Filams better than SBP and PBA can.

Sshhhh...not too loud..lets not make it too obvious...if they invite solid-contender teams from any other part of the world it might shatter the illusion of invincibility of the "Bayan nang mga Superstars"...especially the madlang fans of the SMC teams. Lol.

                      • nah, if there are invitationals, it should be organized by sbp with gilas as one of d participants. d pba can send one team at most with 2 foreign teams (if tourney is only for four teams). perhaps, if six teams, we can adopt d fiba OQT format.

for d pba teams, i actually like that they continue and be more active in participating in invitational tourneys abroad (e.g. Terrific, champions cup, dubai cup, jones cup).

I was wondering how feasible to organize an annual invitational ala Jones Cup? If indeed feasible, I will invite 2 Oceania teams (Guam, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti), 1 from Latin America, 1 African team and 3 Asian teams.

                            Oh. I see.

Is it true that NBL is more of a Big Man's league than a Guards lesgue?

Ive always wondered the same. Feels like a tournament like this can be quite profitable. And considering how we as a nation have been proclaiming that we are a basketball country, an invitational tournament like this could be like a celebration of our identity.

SBP should be able to do it in 2022 and/or 2023 as part of our preparations for d WC.

While feasible, it will have a lot of difficulties if done this year given d current pandemic (hopefully better conditions next year).

For now, a 4-team tourney is more feasible in a bubble set-up.
