What does it tell you when the opposing team runs an isolation play whenever a certain player is among the 5 playing? Simple ?. they?ve found the weakest link defensively in the team.
I wouldn't go that far, but if their 4 player (Johnson, who's arguably the best 4 in the NBL) is playing 5 and they opt to go small (which they might have done in the last game)... what the hell is Kai going to do on the court playing small ball? Also, the NBL has only 10 teams and have no restrictions on foreign players... I'm willing to bet even the last guy on the bench of the worst team can be a B.League B2 foreign player who can put up monster numbers in Japan. Kai got more playing time than he should have had last year when Isaac Humphries (who's miles better than a Zhou Qi) went down injured. As bad as it sounds, Kai is currently the NBL's version of what Tacko Fall was. The hope is that his handlers take the 3rd year option with the 36ers and enters free agency in 2023-2024. They obviously won't let Kai grind it out for cheap exhibit 10 or non-guaranteed contracts, if an NBL team won't give him an offer... for sure he goes to either Japan or Korea when he'll still be 22. Start panicking when he hits 24 because MVP will be waiving.

Atleast here with Gilas, he will be use for 30 mins or more... with Junmar likely out for 5th window due to throat injury and Kouame is not 100% yet on game shape, Kai will be a good help for Gilas and also to redeem himself... Dagdag kumpiyansa for him playing for Gilas because for sure he will be use....
Adelaide has no games between 5th-17th November and Kai has a FIBA release clause in his contract. He will be available barring any injuries. Chot himself said they always include Kai in the pool prior to any window. Remember that Australia are not yet qualified so they still need their main core from NBL teams to secure wins.

And Junemar is only out for a few games as per reports. He is not officially ruled out of the 5th window.

      • Not gonna lie, I feel bad for people who're still clinging for hope that Kai is gonna be an NBA caliber player, I just don't see it. So many flaws in his game, even at this point of his career..

Best case scenario after his NBL stint: CBA, B League, KBL
Worst case scenario: Getting drafted by a farm team in PBA, then ends up playing for either SMC or MVP team.

I am at the point where I will be happy if Kai establishes himself as a solid NBL center. When was the last time an Asian player made it big in the league?

Anything beyond the NBL like the EuroLeague, G-League, or NBA is a bonus.

CBA is not bad too. Plenty of former NBA players go there like Arenas and McGrady.

zhou qi is playing in the NBL, averaged around 11.6 pts 6.6 rbs 2 blks per game last season. those are reasonable goals for kai's 2nd season

Even YouTubers are warming up to the idea of kai playing in the CBA and are now hyping up the Chinese. But IMO that would probably be the end of his NBA dream if that happens.

                Jaylen Brown - 7'
                Paul George - 7'

Wembanyama's wingspan is 8' with standing reach of 9'7. I'm not saying Kai (9'4 standing reach, 7'5 wingspan) will be effective against Victor, far from it (especially with the current pace of his development). But NBA teams will have to have some players with ridiculous standing reach/wingspan, of which there are a few, to have a chance against Wembanyama.

Let's face it, even if Kai makes it to the NBA, best case scenario is a bench/role player. You're not going to put him as the primary matchup to a Wembanyama, but he could be a role player/defender in spot minutes against him. Just like teams had heavy/strong guys to defend and foul Shaq in spot minutes during his prime.

Exactly. Kai's ticket to the NBA is not by being a Wembanyama's stopper. If you put it at that angle, then Kai can never be an NBA player.

He would be a good spot up player. Think an upgraded version of Boban after he builds some muscle.

Wemby is a bad match up for Kai. He's exactly the type of player he struggles with.

                  • I think there are more non believers now in this thread than there ever was.

Kai's playing minutes in 36ers doesn't help at all.

I think wasser sports should start to push that panic button.

Gilas november window is a good start. Harris was released last year for the tall blacks. I think this will not be a problem if wasserman insist for Kai to play in Gilas

and get that 30 minutes per game and his confident back. I have no faith on CJ anymore. He is just someone who talks a lot but different action.

                      • Timberwolves versus Nets playing ultra super big with both teams playing their starter with super ultra heavy minutes. Wow.

Magic bigs won versus Cavaliers. Cavaliers regular line up rested with Evan Mobley playing.

Kobe, well, ayun, we've seen what his deficiencies are.

Balti, on the other hand, man, he's between a rock and a hard place. He's already 25 and close to his prime. Needs playing time, but he's not getting any in Hiroshima. In the Philippines, however, he needs to be with a team that can develop and use him PROPERLY, and NT availability post-2023 may be an issue. I guess I should be thankful that Tab further honed his defensive versatility and perimeter skillset for a 4, otherwise he'd end up like a Troy Rosario, Roosevelt Adams, or MGR case if he ends up in the Philippines.

balti might be one and done in the bleague. if he played for gilas last asia cup and 3rd window, would it give him good playing time for Hiroshima?
