Actually, I find it odd that Hiroshima signed Baltazar when they already have a good number of bigs and they are playing small. To me, I am asking right now what is his role in his team?

I think Balti just needs to keep working hard in practice and show he can be serviceable stretch 4 in the B.League, Maybe it's a coach thing, Management want to sign a Filipino import for the perks that goes with it but the coach thinks otherwise. not an ideal situation for Baltazar

The thing is Balti's offensive skills are not very advanced. The JP guy has a good shooting form and has good fundamentals. But he is short, unathletic and does not have good handles. Balti's calling card is defense. But he cannot do anything if the coach does not play him even if they are losing. Their opponent, Toshiba has only two goods bigs, Fazekas and their other world import. The good play was to wear them out. Balti is their third tallest player but they put in the 6'3 JP PF when their 2 tallest guys got into foul trouble.

Coaches would usually go deep in their bench when they have a big deficit. But no. I havent seen a boxscore with plus minus for B league but I suspect the JP guy would have a negative one. If you are into conspiracy theories you might even think they paid him a lot of money just to bench him.

Too bad for Balti. He got the money but apparently playing time is another thing. Their world imports are a 6'11, 6'9 and 6'7/6'6. Then there is a 6'5/6'4 guard forward and the 6'3 JP PF. Ironically Carino got more PT than him. Hiroshima paid a lot, even bringing his family there. I hope he gets training in practice because win or lose he gets zero PT.

Kai gets minutes. Balti only played 4 mins in one game after 4 games. And that was when their 3rd world import was unavailable. While he didnt have mich stats, I would say their lead was kept while he was on the floor. And it is not as if they are winning. Yesterday they had a double digit deficit for all of the 2nd half. Their two tallest guys were in foul trouble. But they chose to play small ball. And they still lost by double digits.

Isn't Baltazar playing in the NBL and La Salle. When he was playing in the NBL, I never saw report or news about him getting interested in joining the PBA, he pulled out of last years draft, playing internationally was his main goal I think.

Just a very bad move by the Hiroshima club if this is what they're really going for with the Balti signing. They gotta make sure that they're guy gets decent PT for such PR move to work to its fullest.
