It’s a fact that they should start to accept.

Lines like this are clear editorializing.
i agree with you, that line is editorial. however, i also agree with Matthew Li - SBP and PBA need to accept the reality.

players-playing-overseas is not new. americans playing import elsewhere, so as latin americans, so as canadians, so as europeans, so as australians, so as kiwis. even players from middle east also play as imports elsewhere.

Yup we live under capitalism. The PBA can either pay for top talent or watch them leave.

As a national program though we should find a way to incentivize top talent to leave for like D1 basketball instead of Japan or Korea. Find the funding for one.

if we have an agent in the americas, we could probably seeing LeBron Lopez, Kobe Paras, JGDL and Kouame playing in Latin American leagues, which is not bad IMO.

Really, the problem is coach CJ not giving 30 minutes per game for Kai Sotto. It's frustrating when you have a coach like that. CJ resign...
to be fair minutes/playing time is earned, not given or a privilege. If Kai can't supplant those starters from the rotation, there's probably something the coach is seeing that us, fans are not seeing since we just rely on stats and games available online. If the motivation of the team is to win and playing Kai heavy minutes hurts the team rather than boost their chances of winning so be it.

Here we again, why not hoping for kai to be effective at a given playing time.

              • we still know kai's having stamina issues. And if cj would give those minutes as mentioned by the poster (30mpg), I don't think he'll deliver those fantasy stats and may prolly cause him to get injuries.

and also remember that before we clamour kai to get those deserved minutes, he didn't play competitive 5x5 basketball after the nba draft. He could've play on those summer leagues invites and/or signed two-way contract, etc.

Any idea how much the average salaries in those top leagues from PR, DR, ARG, BRA, MEX, etc., are?

I believe that if our young cream-of-the-crop talents in the future would only secure contracts in those leagues, they would be much closer to being scouted by G-League or by Euroleague clubs than being in B. League or KBL. But I also think that they all must be under the age of 25 and are Kai Sotto-level in terms of skill, training, and pedigree. In short, they should be good enough for the Australian NBL.

                      • Talentwise, I really don't think just any Filipino player will survive a Central American league like Puerto Rico or Mexico. Let's not forget having US-roots is normal over there and communicating with them isn't like learning Chavacano and off they go. For every Karl-Anthony Towns, Buddy Heild, Chris Duarte, Jose Alvarado, and Juan Toscano-Anderson... there could be thousands of players who played D1, never made it to the NBA, have at least an eigth of Latino blood, and become the Renaldo Balkmans of the world.

                              • kai's "stamina issues" are over-exaggerated. sure he needs to improve his stamina but he did not have issues playing 30+ minutes in the last fiba window.
