The thing you have to remember is Kai is eligible as a local for Gilas, so he's not actually competing with Blatche or NP or import in terms of level for fair pay. It's for a different role. So it does not follow that he has to be Blatche level ,to command a high price as he is classified as a local.
The SBP after all is already spending less with just tapping Kouame as a NP instead of a Blatche or a Clarkson..
So EWP has actually leverage when negotiating for a higher price for Kai services for Gilas .
Remember also Kai is a better endorsement product compared to Blatche for the Philippine market

The kid needs the reps. And this is the perfect situation for him. He will be featured and given major minutes. The competition, at least for some of the games, will be less than in the NBL. I think its high time people stop treating Kai's NBA dreams as their own really ... so a "think about what he wouldv'e earned in the NBA" or "its for Pinoy pride and sh*t in the NBA" card shouldn't apply here. Again its Kai's dreams not yours so better stop now.

Kai has said in interviews that "his dream is the Filipino's dream" or something along those lines. Let's not say this stuff just because Kai failed to get drafted. We never hear stuff like what you're saying when a successful Pinoy makes it to the world stage, like Pacquiao, Carlos Yulo, Blacklist, etc. The kid said what he said, like a lot of Pinoy athletes before him. Katumbas ng burden of expectation ang suporta. As long as he works on that expectation, the support will never stop even with obstacles along the way.
