I actually agree with you .. to me no question with Kai's current ability (everything being considered) his level (not actual selection) is indeed a serious prospect to be drafted next year .
That is why I'm very confident if Kai was an international prospect ( did not finish HS in US and didn't join Ignite) and went directly to the 36ers , from Ateneo) therefor his automatic eligibility year would be 2024. (not 2022). to me he would be drafted eventually. in any of the years 2023 or 2024. Yes i am that confident. cause he would not be competing vs the bad rap (Ignite) and he would have more time to develop and showcase his game ( 2 full seasons in NBL) .
This unfortunately is not the situation. And you can see CJ is trying his hardest ,, to change that impression on Kai.

    • It will be interesting to see the next release of the major polls/mock drafts (ESPN, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports) to see if Kai made a dent with that decent 4-game performance.

        Released today

The top of the 2022 NBA draft is looking stronger by the month. And as conference play moves along, scouts are learning about new prospects worth tracking...

At number 21 Walker Kessler. Number 1 ranked Auburn had a game the other day. 7 foot center Kessler almost got his 3rd triple double. He led Auburn in a rout versus Alabama with like 16 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks. He is by far the best shot blocking big man in this class averaging 4 per game in the US NCAA.

I understand 100%. But whose impressions is Coach CJ trying to change? NBA scouts or mock draft scouts? Because to me, if scouts are doing their homework on Kai and calling him regularly then that still means interest from NBA teams regardless of what the mocks say.

Imo NBA teams should do a draft and stash on Kai. Draft him now to secure him, and let him play another year at the NBL so there's no spot wasted. This will develop Kai better than if he goes to the G League or languish on the bench. Also gives Kai peace of mind since his future is secured, at least for that moment.

It is the actual staff members of NBA teams that he is ultimately trying to influence. But as I said I'm convinced based on historical precedence the mocks are a reflection (however not 100 %accurate) of who the teams will actually pick. Historically you have to be in the radar of top 80 at the very least to be in serious probable pick to be selected.

Scouts will always do their die diligence and cast a wide net of prospects to inquire on. Each team would easily inquire about 100 prospects as part of their home work . This is common.
I fully expect Kai to be one of the hundreds they inquire and call about

BTW Jessup and Louzada are draft and stash players but assigned to the NBL. My opinion is he will be signed by an NBA team as a FA after the draft then possibly assigned to the NBL

This is something Kai needs to develop immediately if he wants to be noticed.

Well there's always hope. I know I keep going back to this but it's the easiest example I can use.

I'm also not against draft and stash, and as long as he gets signed I don't care how Kai gets there. I hope scouts are smart though and realize that Kai is head and shoulders above some of the prospects listed above him in the mocks.

Will be signed by an NBA team as a FA then assigned to the NBL? Take note that Kai still has 1 year remaining in his contract with Adelaide. A buyout of his Adelaide contract and assigned him back to NBL?

much feasible is either kai gets drafted then stashed, or signed by a NBA team once his 36ers contract end

                            • Kai hasn’t been getting a ton of buzz as an NBA draft pick this year, but he could certainly work his way into that mix if he finishes this season with the Adelaide 36ers strong.
