  • The Philippines needs more quality players who play well without the ball.
Which is difficult to develop in the Philippines. As how can you be recognized if your not a star. And how can you get the relevant exposure vs size off the ball

It's excellent exposure for Kai to develop without being the main man . And rely on one on one iso. This to me is the problem.with the one and one centric Philippine basketball. You look.at Thirdy.. he's Mano o Mano centric developed.. so with Kobe

It becomes worst if you can dominate down low with your height advantage. Other parts of one's game are not developed

When you play against imports, because they're about the only ones that can provide a team with the necessary size. Not just at the 5 position. Even the PF and SF positions as well, but we have developed taller wings.

But, we're behind in a lot of things. Small ball, positionless ball, off-ball players, rim runners. Reasons 1 and 2 are reasons why we continue to produce 6'1"-6'3" SFs, 6'3"-6'5" traditional PFs, and 6'5"-6'8" centers who cannot play PF.

Now, Dwight can play off-ball and guard the perimeter positions. Kiefer can play off-ball as well. Kai, right now, is trying to run the rim.

As for off-ball, it's really tough to find a homegrown player who can really operate without the ball, and shoot off the catch, and sometimes off the catch and off the move. I look at Paul Lee and Jeff Chan, and that's it.

        jokic is deceptively strong.

gobert is a defensive bigman which kai is not.

kai has a higher ceiling than haddadi. too slow compare to kai.

kai is already better than japeth at this point and at age 19. playing in the nbl and actually having an actual playing time is a mean feat to every pinoy cagers. the only player that i believe that has mean feat that is comparable to kai is rayray parks during his texas legend stint in the G-League.
He doesn't have Qi's, Porzingis and Gobert's measurables. Doesn't have the quickness and explosiveness, timing and instincts to be the same shot blocking machine. Porzingis and Zhou Qi gets ridiculed here a lot but it would really help Kai if he could somehow get their shooting.

Haddadi and Jokic are super strong and really good on the block. I doubt Kai will ever get that strong.

Gobert is the centrepiece of the Jazz defence. I have a hard time seeing Kai anchoring a perennial playoff team's defence especially after yesterday's game. But filling in a Javale McGee role is doable. But he really needs to improve his conditioning and speed first. If he can't even compete with NBL level "athletes" who some here think are soft and slow, how is he going to run with NBA players who are the best in the world.

Kai sub-in at the 7:46 mark of the 4th quarter when Melbourne made a 8-0 run. Kai slowly is earning Coach CJ's trust. And also Kai has a good BPM in this game..

Actually, I heard that McGee also had problems with fatigue, which is why he was a limited-minutes player. Kai could be like that. But yeah, he still needs to improve his conditioning, something he should have done while in hiatus.

At least the 36ers will keep him straight, if he lets them.

Kai is better facing the basket, not from the post.
Kai's post game will be there always. It is natural for him. It is useful in mismatches situations. And one of his strength is his post playmaking. Apparently it will be useful on Gilas since they are posting Kai under Coach tab's system.

Right now in Adelaide where he is not given post plays. The only time his teammates will pass to him is via roll, or cut under the rim. 2/3 dunks of Kai came from this.

Kai getting 8 or 9 boards in this physical league is a nice thing for Kai. Thru rebounds, he can also have a lot of putbacks and follow up dunks. That way he can get attempts even if he is not getting the ball that much in o

                  • Kobe maybe would be a late bloomer in mental strength. You know just like Japeth when he was young.

Maybe he could get himself going in pba. As long as he will not be forced to be a center in the team. Lol.

Yeah Nlex under Coach yeng will benefit him. Just like it is benefitting Oftana.

And speaking of, Oftana is a less less gifted athlete than Kobe. But I will take Calvin Oftana over Kobe Paras at this time

The post game will be developed as Kai gets stronger and he gets his touch back, hopefully. He can be a main option for Gilas operating as a post guy or as a rim runner. But right now, he did better in putbacks, PnR, and driving from the high post, even in Gilas.

But yes, I hope he does get more touches so he can establish his threat, especially with Gilas. With Adelaide and elsewhere, just run the rim, be there for the dunk, and rebound. That's the efficient way for him right now, and a great way to impact the game. If he dunks off a lob, a drop-off, or a putback, that's a hell of an energizer.

And like I said earlier, it helps that he has space to run to the basket, thanks to good spacing. Less threats to guard him once he gets to the rim off the PnR.

                      • Just to add with the Hukporti debate he will never develop an outside shot especially in 3points and I won't bank on him shooting midrange jumpers. Also, ball-handling skills would always be limited hence the very limited upside.haha Too many of his size and same offerings. He is an old-school big and hustle player. Ordinary and too many, unless he will be an elite defender but he can't even stop Kai on that putback dunk.lol Paano na si Hukporti impossible maging modern BIG and magka3points?hahaha sobrang important pa naman yan sa iba.hehe

Kai's target is to be an NBA ALLSTAR and best of ASIA.haha He has proven it for his age bracket by winning u16 asia-oceana MVP. He will grind for that NBA all-star but you are all free to be naysayers it is a free world after all.

Yep. I guess little by little, Kai will get the trust of his teammates in pnr. Right now, the only player who are passing to him is Mitch. Literally all assisted baskets by Kai this season so far came from Mitch.

I hope Mitch and Kai's connection will be better as game goes by.

I hope Kai will get passes even only in drop offs, pnr roll, or alley hoops. (Btw, Adelaide guards looks like not used to lobbing the ball to their bigs, but I hope they can and would)
