I think it is unlikely he will get minutes against Melbourne tomorrow. I think CJ will keep Bairstow in the starting line up and Humphries continues to come of the bench. Even if Kai does get some playing time he will have to go up against the physically imposing Hukporti and I think Kai will really struggle in that match up.

I think Kai will have a better chance to get minutes on Monday night against the Illawarra Hawks. If Andrew Ogilvy gets a few spot minutes, I think CJ will see that as the perfect time to give Kai some playing time. Note AJ Ogilvy is a shell of his former self and is really playing a 4th String big role for the Hawks this season, a far cry from his All NBL days. I think Kai will be able to do decent in that matchup.

If Kai is tasked to guard Harry Froling, I think he would do ok as well. If somehow has to defend Duop Reath or Sam Froling he will get smoked.

Surely with Humphries out Kai will now get some playing time. Melbourne does not play small ball often and will always have one of JLA or Hukporti on the court at all times. They have solid depth at the Power forward spot with Jack White, Mason Peatling and veteran David Barlow.

If Kai is still a DNP tomorrow even with Humphries out then I don't know what else to say.

I was thinking of Abueva a little. However, Abueva would need big-time discipline to stay in SoKor. Plus, he's 33. Sucks, because he's our best FIBA-eligible wing. Him and Gabe are aging already. Oh, yeah, I forgot about Calvin Oftana. If he gets good enough in the PBA after a year or two, he might be considered.

As for bigs, yeah, they have to contend with imports, whether on the pick-and-roll or in the low post. Greg and June Mar will get pick-and-rolled or pick-and-popped to death. Same with Ian Sangalang. Japeth has just signed a 3-year extension with Ginebra. Raymond Almazan and JP Erram, sure they're mobile, but are they good enough, and is TNT willing to give up Erram?

Ofcourse not, as a matter of fact, TNT is fortifying their frontline by signing 6'7 Mark Acuno via free agency.

What PBA players can be possible KBL candidates? Who are good enough? I think some of our best FIBA-eligible guards are good enough for the KBL. Terrence Romeo, CJ Perez, Matthew Wright, and Robert Bolick are the first names that pop up. Kaso, guards lang.

I can't think of anyone good enough or available enough on the PBA wings and bigs front. I think the Gilas boys will be the ones going to Korea from those positions.

There's not too many exchange program-worthy (and with no long-term ties to their mother clubs) PBA bigs right now, as those bigs have yet to get to the PBA. If only PBA accepts homegrowns younger than 20 with considerable upsides, and if only there's a player-loaning system in place, I think this program would be openly accepted by PBA clubs for the sake of hastening their players' development.

Well the Gilas Nz tour I organized verified this. The Gilas national team with Marcus lost 3 games to hugot made up NZ NBL teams .
While the Philippines can put together decent FIBA teams and has a vibrant domestic competition , let's be honest the level of top level Filipino players is really not high. . Very few to almost none are rotation level high major diV 1 players.

This However is Philippine thread and understandable people will be offended if you demean their own.
People know me from way back. And mis interpret my honest observation as hate.
The thing.is when they join the same competition Pinoysbin Div 1 and now Kai in NBL. Their level gets exposed. It's not really of a high level. And it's not like there are not heaps of Kiwis and Australian playing well in Div 1 and in the NBL. The plain truth becomes too obvious

Must be interesting to see how Kai would fare against a top center like Acuil, who relies more on mobility and athleticism rather than brute strength and heft. If Kai can show he can bother or keep up with players Aculi’s built and skill set, he’d surely make a case for more minutes.

Kai gotta earn it, even if it means giving it his everything even in intra squad scrimmages.

Is Kai actually ready for heavy minutes? He was sidelined for some games after playing nearly 20 minutes in the presason.. CJ even said that he needs the extra days to prepare his body after nearly 2 years of almost exclusively training..
