  • Kouame, AJ and Kai are our main bigs. Each brings a different skillset and strengths. Ange and AJ are supposed to be better defensively while Kai is the best on offense

Then all those effort and resources spent will be really worth it
How much did they spent on him? I thought he's supposed to be much cheaper than the other candidates and has a higher vhance of being granted an exemption?

      • I think the purpose of Ange is to fit in and not for the others to fit in to him. Furthermore, pinoys are still not used to playing together with someone who is strong.
I.e. during import laced conference, they tend to rely on foreign players, and merely support them. When they had douthit, and blatche in gilas, the plays of pinoys are more relient on them. Notice how gilas played, when they play all pinoy, they tend to be more fluid in their flow of game.
Hence, Ange is really there to avoid pinoys relying on import but rather to help them actually play their game.
I fervently believe that pinoy ball should rank higher in fiba rankings. Maybe now TAB will be able to truly showcase how pinoys actually play the game with a splice of his international approach to basketball.

        • On Ange Kouame vs. Kai Sotto

Relax, guys. It's just one video clip. It's good to see him play with Gilas and complete an alley-oop. But is JUST one play. You've been on this earth long enough to not judge a game by its highlights.

I will stand by my take on Kai and i dont think Kouame is more mobile and faster than Kai. I even think that kai is more athletic than him. Kai jumps way higher and more explosive if needed.

I would concede though that Kouame's energy is way higher than Kai. I have seen Kouame play all game with almost the same speed. Kouame exerts more effort and has more in his tank than kai these days.

              • Kouame is available, hard to find a naturalized player who is training and playing with a team already (since pool started), without naturalized papers processed yet and can train with a pool in lieu of a playing contract overseas in another league. , plus no need to even come close to matching a competing contract overseas.
Essentially was selected because he can grow with the cadets and the team. NCC style.

Name me another NP better option that would be willing and feasible to train in Calambabubble for last 3 camps. (NOV, feb and march). Not even PBA players are available for that

And its feasible Kouame is available for 2023, 2027 and 2031 WC

Note all the other NP options are in the Hugot boat classification in terms of availability. And the benchmark there is different it's NBA 6th man award level

                • Are we really basing assessments on video clips, media interviews, and the only full games more than a year ago, and vs boys..

Yup, Kouame a utility type of a big guy in the mold of Lebanon's naturalized player Alter Majok while Kai, when he reaches his peak, would be more like a Hamed Hadadi or Wang Zhizhi type of a big guy.

The thing is, Kouame at 23 is already nearing his peak. In about 3 years time, nasa peak na sya. Kai on the other hand at barely 19 yrs of age, still has plenty of years left to reach his peak, meaning still very huge room for improvement. If Kai was able to get the better of Kouame right now, imagine how their match-up would look like 3 to 4 years from now.

                    • Speaking of Naturalized player , the idea for next 10 years is that instead of having to go through the long and costly congress via legislation process, we should focus on hokus pokus processing for ineligibles (Clarkson, Asi etc type). That is significantly less tedious and more practical

Bro, its more than just one play we've seen in a video clip featuring Gilas practice. Its mainly from coach Tab's statement in which he said like pinahirapan ni Kai si Kouame sa Gilas practice that this discussion is based from. I don't put weight on the video clip as much as I put weight on coach Tab's statement.

                        • The thing about Kouame is that he hasn't faced somebody like a Kai Sotto before. Yung mga nakalaban nya sa UAAP & college basketball eh his fellow FSA who are no taller than 6-foot-10. And just like him, those FSA bigs are more like role players & not really heavy scorers. Perhaps Kouame never faced a 7-foot-3 player as skilled as Kai Sotto all his life. Kai on the other hand had faced lots of 6-foot-10 & above athletic & mobile big guys in the US so hindi na sya nanibago matching up against a Kouame.

                          • Kouame is an insurance in case Kai or Edu isn't available and the best that the PBA can spare is Soyud and co again. Plus the other choices aren't exactly as appealing with zero chances of getting an exemption and older..

Honestly, I don't think any eligible Pba Centers now is really a must for Gilas.

                              JMF is injured
                              Greg sucks
                              Japeth retired in gilas
                              Cstand ineligible

Here is the thing also, even if the cadets and Kouame play some games in May vs PBA teams, it's not like Kouame will be playing vs Junmar, Greg or anyone above 6'8 for significant minutes..
other than playing is better than nothing, the value is really almost negligible.
All of that exposure can be with simple scrimmage.. vs the 6'8 cadets or whoever
