  • The bottom line is if Fiba was not cancelled, it could have been Kai Sotto's showcase of his talents. Unlucky that the gamble did not work, that is life sometimes. But he is very young, he has many options , the best is Euroleague, and also NBL Australia were Lamelo Ball played and honed his skills. Both are not bad choices for his NBA step. League is USA is pretty difficult since they are not much into skills but more into athleticism that is why it is hard to develop fundamentals in USA leagues.

Good thing he cannot go back to Ateneo anymore sicne he is already professional, college basketball in Philippine will surely stagnate his skills. And good thing the age limit in PBa is 21, so no need to fear that he will be drafter by SMC puppet farm team. He can play in FIBa if the competition is on March or April with goodnews that he will be along with Kuoame. And since Gilas will join PBA, he can also play for Gilas in PBA.

Kai can play in any pro leagues around the world, except PBA. Lol.

Since pba minimum is 21,while Kai is turning 19 in May.

Kai joining Gilas as a Pba Special Team is an option. But it is not even approved already.

Kai may train for Nba Draft. (That is his original plan, before ignite offered him)

After all, if it is true that Kai will be automatically entred in draft, I am sure some nba teams will consider him because of his potential, and yes marketability na rin.
if he will play for gilas, im sure pba will approve the entry of gilas. thats huge marketing for the joke league

I think he’s going for the draft this year but Kyrie walker may be someone to look at since he kind of fits all the criteria except maybe c though has fallen out of mock drafts I think.

Yeah he was projected 2nd round but I think he’ll probably go in the first, he has everything you want in a modern pf and lots of potential

Shawn Kemp and Amare Stoudamire come to mind. Both have troubled HS years littered with petty crimes. Both didnt pay college ball after high school . Being juvenile delinquents probably turned off many college programs. I think both took a year off of competitive basketball before being drafted.

Another is Thon Maker. He was in Australia then attended prep schools in US and Canada, he had a series of flip flopping decisions regarding whether to enter the NBA draft or finish his fifth year in high school. I dont think he never intended to go to college but he got drafted nonetheless after serving the 1 year out of high school rule.

modern day ba or even the 70s? Bruce Jenner (Now Caitlyn Jenner) got drafted in the 1977 draft as the 139th pick despite not playing basketball. The pick probably was a publicity stunt

though this were the times that the drafts go 4-6 rds deep,

here are some of the weird draft selections of the old era
It's a guarantee that in this year's NFL Draft, a future Hall of Famer will be selected after someone who never plays a down in the league. What we can say with equal certainty (well, almost) is that no team will try to draft a newborn baby, select a Hollywood movie star, scout from the back of a trading card, pick a Nutri-Systems doctor/poker buddy or even a barefoot kicker at the top of the first round. On occasion, teams have gone to great lengths to get it right and failed.

US track stars Carl Lewis and Mike Conley Sr. (Mike Jr's dad) were drafted too. Mike Conley Sr even won a celebrity dunk contest.

Thon Maker though was in various mock drafts usually in the late first round/ early second round. I think he meant playere like Kai who aren't in the top 60 in most mock drafts.

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding Kai Sotto’s exclusion from the Ignite team in the NBA G-League.

more recently would be knicks center mitchell robinson. he was originally projected to go into the lottery prior to his shenanigans and then got drafted in the 2nd round. he's doing pretty well in the nba though

                          • Kmart Jr. was deemed undrafted on most sites and didnt play meaningful bball ever. He was just training and played AAU bball till draft day.

So it's still part of their plan?

                              • If it's indeed that the kid was on a standby(?) as of the moment because of the recent development and no serious offers(?) in the coming months ahead, I think playing for the 3rd Window and eventually for the Gilas as a guest team this coming PBA season, I think is the best option as of the moment. The lad needs to sweat it out playing on an actual game just to get rid off those rustiness and be ready if ever an offer to play somewhere else comes along. Time is the essence now if if they want to ride the final bus for Draft Day 2021..the bottomline here is to make him game shape ready for the remaining months of the year, now if it is possible to play on FIBA Asia this coming August that's additional exposure over there.
