Our perimeter players wont have a field day this time around. We wont replicate that thailand drubbing. Korea knows how to defend gilas. They usually put bigger perimeter defenders. I dont think DR will be able to easily score this time. If seasoned PBA players were having a hard time, then how much more this current amateurs.

I am not in anyway downplaying our Gilas players but they need a lot of seasoning and experience. They also need all the help that they need.

Kai will have plenty of opportunities if he play because this current Gilas perimeter players will have a hard time against this Korean NT.

Is Choi playing this window? The 6'7 defensive sf of Korea. He usually man the middle portion of the perimeter against us.

Why is a gilas team with kai (even with the unfamiliarity) an inferior one?

Lets say kai takes carinos spot in the final 12. Would that team be worse off because kai replaces carino?

Sakali, if Tab isnt even gonna play 12 players, might as well line up Kai even if he knows nothing about the system. Just purely as a break in case of emergency option.

Romeo's offensive skills is world class. He could do the same things even against elite teams. Im not a fan of Pogoy but at his current state Dwight isnt really way better than him. If Pogoy and Wright struggled against Korea, expect that Dwight would also encounter difficulties.

If Edu recovers completely and gets back on track, every other big outside of and Kai will only be serving as a backup, including kouame.. unless tamayo stayw healthy and becomes the stretch 4 we have been looking 4, well, offensive wise. His problem will be on defending against fellow stretch fours. Yep, i hope the likes of Mon Fernandez will be tapped soon.

Fernandez would be a great big man coach. I only think that Espino, Locsin or even Codinera were more suited as a skills coach for Geo. They were about the same physique and athleticism. Geo playing like them would be very useful for us.

Yes, both Aj and Kai would really be our main bigs. I also rank Aj as way better than Koaume when healthy. Regarding Tamayo, i think he could adapt because he is more skilled but senior NT is a lot higher than anything he had experience. I still cant gauge his defense in a senior NT setting. I am leaning on him to play SF and an insurance PF.

You have a point there bro. Even if Indonesia beats Gilas (& Gilas loses both games to Korea), we will be tied with
Indonesia. And since we beat Indonesia by 30+ points in the first meeting, makakalamang tayo sa point system becoz there's no way we'll lose to Indonesia by 30 points or more. But that's if Korea beats Indonesia. What if Indonesia upsets Korea?

Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand it, Indonesia beating both Gilas & Korea will put Indonesia at the No. 2 spot while relegating Gilas to 3rd spot - something which is unacceptable to Pinoy cage fans.

Yes, current bigs of GO, Baltazar and Carino would be liabilities in the world stage. Is Geo already 6'10? I am not sure if he will be able to improve exponentially to warrant a slot on 2023. Although, he could be a NT fixture beyond 2023. I think he needs to have a decent big man coach. Dennis Espino or Noli Locsin would be great for him. Kulang sa skills si Geo and kulang sa gulang. Though he has the drive to compete and he isnt shy to bang inside. I am also hoping that he will always be part of our pool. This training and surrounded by the best would do wonders in his growth as a player.

I think our bigs during 2023 would be Koaume, Kai, Aj and either Junmar or Japeth. If Jc would be our NP, then we might need another big that could play that 3 or 4. Tamayo might be good enough during that time.

I think Alton Lister, an NBA veteran is the current skills coach for the Gilas bigs.

It's not about being an inferior team. If you have a 12th man like Rangel you know he will bang bodies and there will be no controversy if he doesnt attempt a shot.

With Kai, he will definitely not be a defensive role player. Good if he is a good defender but everyone agrees there will be a controversy if he doesnt attempt a shot. Kai is not a rim runner nor is he a strong rebounder. That means he needs to get touches. But can he do that in Tabs scheme? Can he score well enough or defend well enough to be a net positive. Tab will have to decide that in practice.

The point here some are making is somehow inserting kai in the final 12 makes gilas suffer enough or becoming disruptive of tabs beautiful team chemistry.

If it comes down to the last defensive possesion, would you really put in carino, go or baltazar when you have a 7'3 who is the best shot blocker in the team?

All this talk about the wondrous tab system and its fantastic chemistry hasnt led to a win against an important fiba team -- as in top ten nt teams.

Kai should really just work on his chemistry with his adelaide teammates and work on getting a good nbl and nba job.

This way he can buy a lot of chemistry sets and even a chemistry department.

The gilas group shouldnt even be talking too much sh#t about chemistry. They should win first against very good fiba nts, before talking about whether their chemistry worked.

Kai will just get blamed later if tabs chemistry team loses to south korea. He really should have focused on getting a good job as the main breadwinner of his family.

Im a physics, math and medicine guy. Im not really sold too much on chemistry. Pinoys make too many chemical imbalances later when palusot time comes for explaining losses.

Huwag na nilang kunin si kai, at papuntahin na lang sa australia. Doon na lang ako manood at magagaling players, coaches at teams sa nbl.

Check the facts.

Tab's nz nt players have superior individual results compared to current gilas players. Aussie nts have even better credentialed, world-class players.

There are asian teams with known better players. Japan has had nba and a lot more of us-trained players. South korea has had better players and coaches. It has excellent nt win-loss records against the philippines.

Which gilas player or 18-19 player has worked harder than kai sotto in getting a good pro baller job? Right. Exactly none. To say that the other current gilas players have worked harder or "sacrificed" more is a total lie. They are setting up kai for the blame if gilas loses to south korea.

We shouldn't put needless pressure on the gilas team. Their playing results and players are nothing to crow about by fiba standards.

Maganda kung talunin nila korean pro players. Pero hindi naman disappointing kung matalo. Our nt needs at least five players equal to or better than kai sotto against top twenty fiba teams. A little patience is essential.

You can't escape the baller rule: the best team has the best players, not the rest. Sayang lang chemistry kung bobo at bano itinapon sa iyo.

As for me, i am just looking forward to seeing the team play better than pba teams and past nts. It is very hard on the eyes to see pinoys use bulok styles that have no chance to work against good fiba teams. Di baleng matalo ng next two years basta malaki improvement sa adjustments to international play, at ready na sa 2023.

Puso ng puso, tapos total eclipse of the heart lang pala. Lamang na gilas nt, tapos collapse, talo, suko at na sa basurahan na. Maganda pa rin iyong strong, silent type. Makikita mo naman sa game kung sino talaga may gigil at bayag manalo....

Correct. Its not like, our mere appearance in the 3rd window would get us qualify in the tournament proper. We still need to at least beat Indonesia to qualify & its not a walk in the park to beat Indonesia. While Indonesia is an underdog vs. Gilas, its not like Indonesia only has a lucky punch' chance against Gilas. We can't underestimate Indonesia at all.

Imagine the ridicule that awaits Tab Baldwin if Gilas goes 0-3 in the 3rd window. Everyone will be after for coach Tab's head.

The thing is, the Pinoy fans who strongly clamor for coach Tab to give Kai ample exposure & opportunity to shine in the 3rd window are the very same fans who would crucify coach Tab if he fails to deliver this 3rd window.

We tend to overestimate our basketball skills. This is what led to the 2019 disaster and the lackluster 2017 Asia Cup.

If Indons can't upset us, Then they have little chance to upset Korea.. Right? And another thing eh kung tutuusin, Mas OK if mababad si Kai vs Indonesia because they don't have bigs other than Prosper to match up w/ him.. I'm OK if Kai's 1st game vs Korea will be a limited minutes... But against Indonesia, we have the leverage to put Kai longer minutes because of the match ups.. Prosper will not take defense seriously because he knows that if he's in foul trouble then his team will be in complete trouble.. Kai can attack Prosper anytime and force him to play defense to attract fouls and put Indonesia being a undersized team...

A reinforced Indonesia is no joke. We don't have PBA players in the 3rd Window and Indonesia has Prosper in this window. This is not the same Indonesia we faced in the 1st window.

What I hate about Tab is that he is not really concern about Kai's NBA dream. Puro lang individual goals itong si Tab. Kai making it big in the NBA is way bigger than any Gilas win for us. Kai can prove that phil bball player's skills were world class and could compete in the highest level. Kai could also be a uniting factor same with Yao. Im tired of hearing criticism that werent world class and we cant produce NBA players.

I personally like Tab for gilas. He is way better than Chot or any Pba coach. In order to produce a world class team, we should use our big guns and i cant see SBP be able to unite phil bball landscape. I am hoping that after 2023 SBP would pass the burden to other corporations. A change of management would sometimes do wonders and Kai making it big would possibly be the catalyst.

On my opinion, Kai making it big in the NBA should be our first agenda as a whole. He will change phil basketball landscape same with how Pacquiao change boxing for us. His journey will be an inspiration for players to explore offers playing overseas.

I am not expecting anything from this current gilas. I always believe that we should use our best talents to compete and not change personnel in every tournament. SBP as a governing body has lost its credibility. Their poaching of NT players to play for their pba teams was too greedy and appalling. We all know that SanMig block was always cunning and ruthless but SBP should be setting an example as the governing body. Also, as long as the PBA's ways wont change we will always have heart breaks and we wont see the best of Phil bball. Prosper is only legit big man there .. Is even Kouame can defend Prosper? Is Kouame is already on game shape vs Prosper? Hirap nga si Kouame guarding Kai (If we see the clips last February).. Having both Kai and Kouame will give Prosper heavy problems defending both.. Walang back up big ang Indonesia.. We can capitalize on that... Ipipilit mo naman chemistry eh kitang kita we have that size advantage vs Indonesia.. hayyzzzz!!!!

Where in my post did I mention chemisty? I'm talking about not underestimating the opponent. Not even Jong and Tab underestimated Thailand in the second window. That's why they still practiced in a bubble despite the short time they had. You know, Gilas could have not practiced at all since "Thailand lang yan".

Baka naungasan tayo ng Thailand kung hindi sila nagpractice. Imagine mo lang kung hindi nashut down ng Gilas ang perimeter ng Thailand dahil di sila nagpractice.

For fans, just focusing on Gilas is too myopic. Our current dilemma with the PBA wont change in the near future. Only a major event could possibly overhaul things. We wont be able to dominate Asia and be a world contender if we would still be deprive of the best players of the land.

Kai making it big would put a lot of pressure on all of phil bball landscape. You cant just play an NBA Kai and surround him with role players. Kai not making the NBA wont have an impact on how the PBA will deal with our NT.
