I feel Kai's presence in Gilas (if ever he flies from US to Phi to join the team for the 3rd window) would be felt more on the defensive end than on the offensive aspect. This, with Kai's limited training with the team, hence his unfamiliarity with the system & lack of chemistry witj other teammates. With Kai, you got a 7-foot-2 skilled center with fairly good reflexes, & a good shotblocker. That's unprecedented in a Phi senior national team. Opposing team's bigs & slashers will have difficulty scoring underneath or close to the basket. That's intimidation for you.

I remember our game vs. China in the 2018 Asian Games where we lost a very close game. I think it was Zhou Qi's intimidating defense that impacted the game the most rather than his offense. Nahirapan tayo mag score sa loob becoz of Zhou Qi's shotblocking. Imagine kahit si Jordan Clarkson nakatikim ng supalpal kay Zhou Qi.

I would be very satisfied seing Kai registering 9 to 12 pts, 7 rebs per game vs. Korea & 11 to 14 pts & 10 rebs vs. Indonesia. But of course I want to see Kai's intimidating defense at work against the Korean & Indon bigs & slashers

I see him having a harder time against the Koreans than the Indonesians especially if they take him out on the perimeter. I hope he's on his game shape as his his conditioning might be a big factor on his performance

Ben Simmons will always be in final 12 even he will came late, It just Simmons is not always committed, But if he's committed, Basketball Australia will give him a spot because he's very valuable for the team, They understands his professional career.. Kai, JC and Edu are special breeds.. SBP and Tab should understand their professional careers.. They are very valuable to the program.. Even you if they come late they will put in your final 12 spot... I don't think you are stupid to put Mike Nietto over Kai Sotto because the former is always present in the practice.. And as i said before this is not yet 2023 to put your all cards to take them early in the training camp.. This is qualifiers only for Asia Cup..

Kai and other marquee players are in different scenario than those 3x3 players.. And we are still in Asian cup qualifiers, Korea only started their training this week, same as China... Yung Japan they still not yet training for their Asia cup qualifying campaign... We need only 1 win vs Indonesia and that's it... What if Kai announce this time he will join? Do you dis regret it, Because you tell that he's not with the team for long and unfair for other players? Ohhh cmon!!! Many netizens will disagree on your statement if Kai will not be in the line up even he's committed but late... They already know Kai's commitment outside Gilas..

I think what Silent Killer is implying is that coach Tab & the entire Gilas coaching staff want to instill to the players that there should not be any special treatment to any player. No sacred cow mentality. That everyone is treated equally. I think they are trying to avoid any player developing a prima donna syndrome which won't be healthy to the pool/team.

The reality however is that, may mga players talaga who are being treated differently from the others. Special treatment & favoriticism do exist. Mag apply ka lang ng trabaho dito sa Pilipinas, things like palakasan, padrino, politics are part of the equation. But we don't like our kids to be exposed to these ugly kaugalian nating mga Filipino.

Coach Chot was ok with the set-up in which Dray Blatche came here about 10 days prior to every window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers. That's becoz Dray Blatche got a good 2 months of full time training with Gilas under coach Chot prior to the 2014 FIBA World Cup. Meaning, Blatche already had the familiarity of coach Chot system & had already established some degree of chemistry with Gilas mainstays like Junmar, Castro, Norwood, Japeth.

That is why yung 10-day training ni Blatche with Gilas prior to every window wasn't an issue.

Kai's situation with Gilas is very much different from that of Blatche. Kai has yet to spend a considerable period of time with Gilas. Hence if Kai joins Gilas training around 10 days prior to the 3rd window, unfamiliarity with coach Tab's system & lack of chemistry with other Gilas players would be an issue.

Ben Simmons actually received a lot of flack for not participating in the last WC..

Kai hasn't played in real game since he was 17. Practicing with his teammates would go a long way in preparing him for the real games.

Assuming Kai gets on a plane now, how many days of practice can he realistically have?

Yeah.. But this is not yet WC to worry about.. This is just Asian Cup qualifiers.. And we can afford to bring Kai even 10 days because we only need to beat Indonesia to advance.. And we have until August to execute Kai to learn Tab's system until the main Asia cup tournament set.. So from June to August, he will have a full 2 month of learning for Tab's system... The set up here is to Kai to be with the team until the end of Asia cup in August..

we also have OQT a week after ACQ.. so ideally 3 weeks and not 10.. so you are okay with 10 days and tab just puts players who has barely knows his system and put him in final 12 and doesn’t have clue what tab system is? and think about what others think of that? it will create separation from teammates to kai because of that..

and since it’s already less then, kai will not make it to both tournaments..

and what if he makes it and doesn’t get PT, you will blame tab? and complain kai should come early so that he can adopt the system of tab much earlier and not late?

That's the reality and w/ Kai, he's not a ordinary/marginal Gilas player.. He will be our main guy for our team.. take out Mike Nietto and that's fine, But take out Kai Sotto will be a very big problem for us.. Even other countries they giving a special treatment to their main guys.. Hachimura of Japan came late after he finished his US NCAA stint in 2018 but that's fine for coach Llamas, He didn't tell Hachimura that he should there w/ the team 1 month full of training or else you can't be part of the team.. He came 2 weeks before the 3rd window of WC qualifiers, and that is his 1st seniors stint in Japan's senior men's team, He doesn't know yet the system of coach Llamas.. Another one is Ahmed Al-Dwairi of Jordan.. He came only 10 days before the final qualifier of WC last 2019 due to his club commitments in Euroleague in Turkey.. His coach didn't tell him that he should be there for 1 month or else he will be not be part of the pool, And that is also his 1st stint in Jordan after a long while... Because they know their commitments outside the team..

You said it yourself those guys had prior commitments to their teams while Kai has.. personal workouts for more than a year now. Those guys are battle hardened already fresh from playing in their leagues while Kai is busy doing whatever. You're under estimating our opponents. He could easily get injured or worse if he isn't physically and mentally ready to compete at this level.
