  • KQ with 17 pts as he led his team Goyang Sono to a victory over Seoul Samsung Thunders. Not really a good 3-pt shooting game for KQ but still he was much of a factor in this game.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

He is regressing significantly. I think MPBL’s competition is far superior than to any Indian domestic leagues…

That game had at least 3 D1 players (including Panopio). Dibiamaka and Chafee both played for both US D1 and NBL (Australia) and I also noticed former DLSU Taane Samuel (6'7 Kiwi national player).

The local talent depth most likely is very shallow, but the "hugots" definitely aren't bad.

It's a U25 league (only formed 2021) and they even sent a team to compete in the New Zealand league. It's clear that development and long-term approach is the goal. It will be interesting how this league, and it's effect on India's quality transpires.

India has money and height. The country's lack of sports interest/culture is a big hindrance though.

I agree that Indians have both Height and Athleticism, They would easily compete with the top Asian Teams. As you said. the culture is not there yet.

A possibility I see is them going a bit similar to the Azkals route. Football in the Philippines is abysmal and the team is primarily Filfors and developed elsewhere.

At any given time, there are always a few Indians doing alright in D1. Right now, Stanford's Agarwal (6'6 sg) has been having buzz.

They could form a team of Indian Azkals without contributions from the home country. Ranadive (Indian owner of Sacramento Kings) can contribute a lot in terms of connections and money.

In terms of genetics (height/athleticism), a portion of their population is indistinguishable from neighbor Iran, and they have a ton of hafus.

              • This India NBL is levels above the MPBL, maybe on par with IBL Indonesia. The problem is that for such a massive country, they only have 6 teams. Watching that game of Panopio, it's clear that he's easily the best guard of that league. It's not that his game has regressed, it's just that he's capable of playing at higher levels but is in a situation where he gets paid and gets to pad his stats playing against the same dudes every week.

Yeah, after several years of riding D1 benches, he probably wants to go eat for a bit and get unli minutes and shots. He gets to have his mojo back and get paid at the same time.

After this tournament, he should take a shot at BLeague 2 and do a better job than JGDL. If he cant make BLeague1, he should just go to the PBA and be a starter for SMC or MVP teams.

                      He's also eligible for KBL.

I feel KBL teams are not interested on him anymore after his Suwon KT stint though. Most of the reports about him there are negatives, another addition is the injury he had leading to him being waived.

I still think that one and done chance he had in UAAP would have given him more opportunities and exposure, basically the QMB route.

QMB would be playing in BLeague already if he is somehow deemed eligible as local already.

That's right, I totally forgot about his Suwon stint.

                          • Lee Woo Seok is murdering KQ now. The guy looks like a more natural three than KQ at this level and he's either KQ's man (which KQ can't keep up chasing off screens) or KQ switches to the big on the corner. KQ has got 5 pts 6 rebs 6 assists midway through the 3rd.

                            • KQ looks like he's done for the day with 4 minutes to go in the 4th and Goyang down 29. 10/6/6 on way too many forced threes, mostly because this Goyang team really stinks. Lee Woo Seok and Lee Dae Heon were like a two-headed monster. One guy forcing KQ to chase him around screens, the other guy putting veteran bully ball moves inside... what's funny is that they're both 6'6.
