  • Guys, do you think it would have been better for Dave Ildefonso to play in a B-league team instead? I think Pinoy pro ballers, especially the guards & wingmen, have a better chance of thriving in the B-league than in the KBL becoz there are more teams in the B-league than in the KBL. More teams means well distributed yung talents so may space yung Pinoy players to flourish.

This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

For someone who’s supposed to play the guard\wing position, he scores a lot off postups and close to the basket. His shooting has improved this year to 35% from 3 maybe playing in the KBL d league but only takes 1.96 attempts per game. Also his handles are kinda suspect.

Is it a case of Ildefonso jumping into the KBL too soon? I mean, I think Dave played in the KBL when he was 21. On the other hand guys like Abando, Belangel, Oczon played there when they are 23 or 24. Gutang even played in the KBL when he is 25 or 26 already.

I'm thinking maybe Dave should have started playing in Korea 1 or 2 years later than he did. He should have polished his basketball skills well first before turning pro in a foreign league.

He's doing great in their D'League, its just his team has too many guards and he's not suited to play SF at all,in their D'League he's a big guard and he's just almost scoring at will. His agents opted for a change of team instead.

At 6'3 he's actually almost the same size of some Korean SF,and he's more physical than the guards,so his coaches seems to like to exploit that advantage in the shaded lane one on one.He definitely did improved his 3pt shooting and his range is farther, his midrange is coming along,if he could play as a combo guard at SEA and ASIAN Games level,it would be a plus.

this is why I don’t know if he’s m playing in the does he is actually good for his development. I saw mostly highlights not full games but the way he scores most of the time is like Thirdy taking advantage of his physicality and if he’s to develop as a guard he needs the ball in his hand more to create. Most of his shots he getting post up or sometimes shooting from outside but not really holding the ball as much

              • Perhaps not too many people realize that Dave Ildefonso was the top scorer of Batang Gilas U-19 team in the 2019 FIBA World U-19 Championship. He averaged 16 pts per game to upstage the likes of Kai Sotto & Carl Tamayo.

That was how promising Dave Ildefonso was some 4 or 5 years ago.

I think he was measured at 6’1 without shoes. I think that’s why he was shifted to guard. I agree he needs to get more playing time though.

He had a body of a guard then. Was quicker. In college he bulked up to play forward. I guess he still uses that play style even as a guard. But postups, if true, are not an important skill for guards, breaking down the defense and outside shooting are.

                      • Maybe Korea or his team isn't suitable for Dave? Gutang has already overtook him.

I wonder why no B-league team is interested on Jordan Heading right now. I think he did well playing in a pro league in Taiwan a few years ago & he also played fairly well in the B-2 league.

I think Heading also did fairly well playing for the Strong Group Athletics in a Dubai international tournament last January.

That's my observation too, when he plays the 2 guard,he usually gets in hs spot, catch the ball and shoot in the 3 pt area,if at midrange he doesn't dribble to a spot,he dribbles a little and if he's looking to score, its like a sudden shot from nowhere and in a hurry up mode.

Weird at one time his height was compared to Dwight who's 6'4,he's a tad taller than his Dad,so the 6'2-6'3 height is not too far off, that height measurement was way back in the Batang Gilas days. Here he's listed at 6'3 https://alchetron.com/Sean-Dave-Ildefonso
