And most probably, the majority of players of the succeeding iterations of Gilas will come from overseas leagues (Japan, Korea, US).

Without JC, Dwight, Abando, Edu and to a lesser extent Kai and Kief we probably would have gone winless in the WC.

As long as it helps the basketball program, why not?

Moving forward, the norm should be that our best young players should be playing with the best leagues abroad, Europe preferably, while the next best ones are playing in Asia or locally.

Good for the local basketball scene, frees up roster spots in the PBA and the smaller leagues. If only the PBA is not that short sighted and greedy, they can't have everyone on the payroll anyway

Edu alone probably lessened our deficits by around 10 pts. Anybody remembers how bad our D was without an NP big? Even against Jordan we couldve lost without Kouame. He was a plus 9, we won by 8. Kai was a minus 1.

              • Rhenz in the NT, plays disruptive defense but on offense, he plays spot up 3. Question: Can he play a typical 2, where he can look for shots 1v1. and maximize his athletics skills? i saw clips from HJ insta showcasing his 1v1, pull-up, middy game.

                Asking for a friend.

Abando is basically what Ronald Pascual was supposed to be, athletic shooters who could defend.

ay sayang....well he can still be focal point in offense with a Rip Hamilton ( King of 2 Point Jumpers) kinda shots...variety of mid-range and elbow shots weaving through picks and screens.

At this point he is an SF. You need your actual SF to be able to handle the ball to offset this. I think even in KBL this is his role now.

                        • Since hes technically Filipino: looks like Ange Kouame has signed up for a euro club

With the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee implementing a ‘passport-only’ rule for eligibility of the participants for the 19th Asian Games, Gilas Pilipinas can field both Justin Brownlee and Angelo Kouame for the men’s 5-on-5 basketball tournament. Though Brownlee is already committed to play for the Philippines, Angelo Kouame has yet to commit. And it’s […]

                          • First time Ive heard of this guy. If he is good, hopefully he is Gilas eligible.

Another Filipino-Canadian guard is headed to the Korean Basketball League. Avan Nava, a 6-foot-2 guard out of Mississauga, Ontario, has signed with Seoul Samsung for the upcoming 2023-24 KBL season. Nava played three years for St. Francis Xavier University, putting up averages of 14.9 points, 2.3 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game. For the Thunder, […]

With Long Hair and SMC in charge no more overseas players for GIlas, unless they comeback and play for the PBA and SMC teams.
