I even heard people saying that it's all about the money. My goodness, they're really making out Jaja, Wesley, Pagulayan and others to only care about money. Jaja is not winning anything with the pabebe team known as the Philippine Women's Volleyball Team. What kind of volleyball federation forces their best player to try out first before being admitted to the national team? But with Japan she could not only play in the Olympics but also win a medal as Japan is one of the powerhouse teams in international women's volleyball. Alphonse Areola won't be in back-to-back World Cup Finals had he played for the Azkals instead of Les Bleus. Thailand at Cambodia na nga lang, di pa natin matalo sa volleyball at soccer.

Same with our other athletes, too. What the PH chess federation did to Wesley So had to be seen to be believed, particularly that one time they cancelled him because he'd rather represent our country in a world championship in Kazan, Russia than represent his school in a glorified inter-mural tournament in the Philippines, as told on air by Senator Nikki Coseteng around the 2000s or 2010s, I don't remember exactly. After being thrown under the bus like that, So was in the right to defect to Team USA. Alex Pagulayan also went to Canada.

It's admirable that Hidilyn Diaz still chooses to lift for our country despite the fact that nobody cared about her until she won our first gold medal in the Olympics. It's admirable that the Filipinas chose to play for the Philippines despite being half-bloods and considered by some unworthy of donning the blue and red... until they made it to the FIFA Women's World Cup. Only time will tell if that chess kid would soon meet the same fate as Wesley and defect elsewhere more appreciative of his talents.

Typical Pinoy sports fandom and authorities. They only care about men's basketball and women's volleyball, they don't care about anything else unless we are winning in them, then go back to basketball and volleyball once they're no longer winning. They only support our athletes when they are winning, but suddenly drop them under the bus when they're no longer winning. Kailangan munang manalo bago pansinin.

Small ball with 6'6"+ people is still kind of a foreign concept in the Philippines, which is sad. Yes, we have guys like Will Navarro and Jamie Malonzo as wings, and Carl Tamayo, Mason Amos, and Justine Baltazar as tweener forwards.

reamily has a point, we'll need to make our tall mobile players (6'6"-6'8") to be small ball ready. It's not just about height, it's also about mobility and versatility. We need to teach our tall mobile players to be more versatile, and focus on their agility and lateral quickness. More height at the wing and tweener positions, kamo.

Is Gozum keeping up with the 3-men of the opposing teams defensively? If he can play 3, he might have a better shot at Gilas, considering he looks only around 6'4"-6'5".

Hard to gauge the quality of the opponents matched up against him but so far he looks good. He's another case of someone who could be a natural 3 if the environment allowed it. Also had to bulk up for the local play style instead of going for speed.

Ang akin lang naman, the more 6'6" and above athletes PHL has, the better. NBA-sized small-ball will be realized much faster if we have a surplus of those.

He looks a bit slow in the perimeter. But he makes up for it with a good defensive stance and effort. It helps that he plays with Balkman and Muhammad who were NBA level SFs.

              • Quiambao seems to be improving his 3 pt shot. He only needs a mid range jump shot. Balti on the other hand has been a force on defense. Rim protection has been excellent. Post defense has been good. Offense though needs improvement. His 3 pt shot looks a bit flat.

Yes he is still here attending Gilas practices

Japan has been in dire need of new blood because their youth aren't...comfortable with raising kids, to put it lightly. They probably convinced Jaja to be a JP citizen because of that. Money? Jaja is out best player, she won't have problems with that especially with volleyball's rapid growth in the recent years. No, I think this is about recent Japanese policy about their shrinking population.

The thing about PH sports is that even within the govt, sports associations are treated as businesses instead of organizations made to support our homegrown athletes. That's why what happened to Wesley So is very common, deny the opportunity to play in the world stage because the sport is "small" in the PH, therefore the investment isn't worth it to them. So despite my hate for Choke, Joke, and the rest of the clowns running Gilas, my hat's still off to MVP.

I agree, that was in the 2nd paragraph of my post. Like RDS said, Jaja could've still retained her PH citizenship, but Japan wants more children. Her being full JP is one of the goals of that program.

Yeah.. even some of our coaches urges her to take it. That tells you how bad PNVF is

What is the ceiling for KQ? frankly I see
him in the same mold as Carl Bryan Cruz, Calimag,Gonzales, or even a Hugnatan, a typical 6'4-6'5sh tweener: a bigman on a guard's body (in terms of international size) so for Gilas I wouldnt really consider him

That court vision and passing sense he has is intriguing and with his length as well if he can develop his 3 point shot and improve his defense he can be a very good Gilas player.
