if that's the case, they'll just won't earn much, average Filipinos don't buy original jerseys which is pricey, they rather buy divi versions of jerseys, there's a reason why the NBA shop in trinoma and glorietta closed shop.

We are overestimating the Philippines as a viable market for the NBA, Filipinos don't have the purchasing power to buy authentic nba licensed products. So if Kai, or any other Filipino makes it to the NBA, its not because he is the token market enabler, but due to the skill/potential

Its a culture thing I guess?Just look at those guys who collect action figures, you can tell some of them were not the expesive ones that you buy in toy or comic conventions, they're knockoffs, even the well to do.

            • A recent video of Kai showing how effective his hook shot and I think his tear drop would be very useful in the NBL. The block also in this vid shows his quick response as seen countless times. Somehow he also showed he is gassed again. It is possible he had prior trainings before this scrimmage. Hopefully, his stamina will further increase as he age.

i guess, that's why funko pops sells like hotcakes here, they are the cheapest toys/collectibles in the market

I'm not even sure if the NBA generate that much income in the Philippines to warrant a token filipino nba player for marketing purposes, probably in the diaspora population but not here in the country,

They don't. Remember the Mavs picked Sim Bhullar out of everyone from the Texas Rangers, which included BRP Jr.

Because Sim Bhullar represented an untapped market of potentially 1 billion people. The Philippines is already a captive audience who will watch NBA regardless of representation in the league.

parks went undrafted before playing for mavs in summer league then dleague with d texas legends. he had two chances to impress to get an nba contract or stint, he did not.

i dont remember bhullar playing for mavs or texas legends (moreso with that rangers team which is in baseball).

The only money the NBA can make in the Philippines would be from broadcast rights.

Merchandise? Forget it. $60 for a jersey is already expensive in dollars, even more expensive if converted in peso and wedged against the average local salary.

If I'm not mistaken they can also earn through increased traffic/viewers in their websites. If Thirdy significantly increased the viewers of San-En, imagine Kai which is much much more hyped.

Ah yes the dreaded peenoise invasion.. I hope our enthusiastic country men learned from the Miss U debacle and avoid posting thrashy comments online

to be fair, the B League is unknown to ordinary Filipinos hence the significant increase in viewership once Thirdy signed with San-En, Yes the NBA will generate income from viewership due to Kai (if ever he is signed), but I doubt it will be that significant since Filipinos already watch the NBA/ the country is already a NBA market, though this could mean that the bandwagon NBA fans (of the laker nation, nets, mffl, etc) would just transfer to the Kai train. Though I fear that the number of toxic peenoise would increase dramatically.
