  • I'm thinking that perhaps Justine Brownlee's injury to his right thumb which would require surgery is a blessing in disguised as far as Gilas in concerned as such surgery is going to sideline him for a number of weeks. Getting sideline for say 5 to 6 weeks after the surgery would simply means getting a much needed rest.

JB needs rest as he moonlights as Ginebra import & Gilas naturalized player. He's not getting any younger hence madali na sya mapagod ngayod as compared to 5 years ago.

I heard he's going to get surgery to that injured thumb right after this championship series with TNT.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. • PBA is just giving coach Tim Cone a built-in excuse just in case Gilas sucks in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup - "We only had 9 days to prepare which obviously isn't enough"

In fairness to the PBA, I think they used to support Gilas well in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016. I mean PBA adjusted its calendar during those years so that Gilas would get enough time of preparation for FIBA tourneys & other international tournaments. Although of course, SMC during that time lent only 1 player per team for the national team. But at least Gilas got the preparation it needed to make the team battle ready.

But after 2016, PBA hardly cooperated with SBP in helping Gilas get ample preparation time for any tournaments except the 2023 FIBA World kasi host tayo eh.

by PBA i think you meant MVP. in 2015 SMC players (except pingris) famously suddenly became too injured/sick or had to take care of family members with cancer. that was gilas' best shot at making the olympics in the past 40 years or so. china barely beat the a gilas team B w/ blatche to qualify for the 2016 rio olympics.

What I mean is, SMC in 2012, 2013, & 2014 lent only Junmar (of San Miguel Beer), Japeth (of Ginebra) & Pingris (of San Mig Coffeee/BMeg now known as Magnolia) for Gilas which was known as "one-player-per-team" policy.

Then in 2015, SMC & even ROS didn't lend any of its players to Gilas, hence the inclussion of aging players llke Dondon Hontiveros, Asi Taulava, Sonny Thoss in the Gilas line up. It was only Pingris from the SMC camp who defied this policy by SMC that he still suited up for Gilas in 2015 which was very commendable as Ping showed extra ordinary loyalty to the national team.

Without the one-player-per-team policy by SMC, coach Chot would have wanted players like Marcio Lassiter & James Yap in the Gilas team in 2012, 2013 & 2014.

On the SMC side, apart from June Mar, Pingris, and Japeth, which FIBA-eligible players from 2012 would be useful for Gilas, and could not be easily replaced?

Obvious answer is "Super Ubo" Lassiter. Super Ubo could have replaced Garry David. I like Lassiter coz he has the shooting & defense.

And maybe James Yap, but I feel Yap being a volume shooter isn't good for Gilas at that time.

Never forget what they took from us. We could have done so much more if they didn't sabotage our NT.

Tsongo and Lutz would have helped even though Lutz never regained his shooting. Guys like Yap and David didn't really fare well in FIBA. It was always one dimension shooters like Chan and Fonacier who were more effective.

Slaughter maybe? That's one "ok" big we could have used instead on relying on geriatric players like Asi and Thoss

                        • Slaughter's best season was 2015, so he would been definitely boosted the 2015 Silver Medalist team, along with JMF. Damn, what an olympic stint we missed out just because of politics I guess.

Speed over size and horizontal rim protection instead of vertical rim protection. Protect the whole paint instead of the basket.

When the Lakers traded away AD, they also employed the same philosophy. It was best demonstrated when they held Jokic to 7 shots, he couldn't do anything in the paint.

I've said before that Gilas should have guys in the lineup who are versatile enough to employ the same tactic. It matches well against 5-out teams (shooters) and also serves as an insurance when our fragile bigs can't play.
I think we have Dwight and JB, maybe Malonzo, for versatility on defense at the wing.

Outside the pool, I think Will Navarro, Francis Lopez, and maybe Mark Belmonte can be candidates. Who else can be good personnel for the OKC small ball?

One of the player I believe was Joe De Vance. Why?he can shoot 3 points, good fit for pick and pop.He has a good size for defense, even though a bit slow. He is useful for Gilas lack of bigs who can shoot 3's and could not be easily replaced.

Remember guys, Slaughter wasn't FIBA-eligible at that time. He got his FIBA exemption only in 2018.
