Not quite sure yet if he can fully transition to wing position in offense, but he's got decent handles and finishing at fastbreak for a 6'6" homegrown.

Moving on, I think he deserves a Gilas call-up. Can't go wrong with inviting 6'6" and above guys with wing potential.
And the guy just won NCAA Defensive Player of the Year, and that was the last year where FSA's could play in that league. He could potentially be an asset for Gilas' defensive profile.

Then that's even much better. I have no idea how he won that award but I'm guessing he won it by being a versatile defender? If so, I think we're seeing in him a very worthy alternate for Navarro with arguably a better offense.

He won it by being a good paint defender in the NCAA, judging from his highlights. Versatility could be developed, though. He already has some mobility.

I'm not really sure but FSAs were banned from winning some awards that season. I dunno if that includes DPOY.

Kid is mobile and tall enough to be like Balti on defense at least

There was a separate award for foreigners. Best Foreign Player and Best Foreign Defensive Player. No foreigners also made a Mythical Team or an All-Defensive Team.

Yeah, hope he can become some sort of Balti lite or Balti 2.0.

Oh I see. Even so, guys like him should still be invited in the Gilas camp so Coach Tab and staff can squeeze every ounce of their perceived potential. It's a big thing too that the defensive mentality is already there for Arana. He just needs to be challenged further going against top prospects like him.

If SMC takes over, what are the chances that they'll keep the development system and continutity in the program, and hire a coach that still emphasizes defense in international ball?
Well, an SMC takeover will be unlikely for the next few years, as Al Panlilio was just reelected as SBP president for another term. Ricky Vargas is the VP.

Let's hope the SBP board don't mess this program up.

That's great to hear. I don't want SMC to have anything to do with SBP & the national team.

Tama na yung binababoy ng SMC ang PBA. But beyond that, spare us. The Philippine basketball community deserves much better than what the real evil empire can offer. Philippine basketball is significantly in better hands with MVP group. Of course MVP group is far from being perfect. It has its shortcomings & some ulterior motives. I'm not that delusional to believe that MVP group is 100% noble.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

China, Korea and Iran meanwhile dropped 1 place from their previous rankings.. I think the reason of dropping rankings from the previous ranks due to postponement of FIBA Asia cup to 2022... KSA is the highest leap from all of Asian teams by 8 places from 87 to 79...

And our FIBA windows were postponed as well.

Man, I hope we can beat SoKor twice, like we did last June. It won't be as easy this time.

Man, Semerad is a hell of a player to have. Good jack-of-all trades at 6'4". Can shoot the 3, hustle, and defend the 2, 3, and 4 positions. Could have been our Ping replacement, only with a 3-point shot.

He'd have been a great asset for Gilas.

Something I never understood is why MVP's teams in the PBA always underperform.
                        GILAS WISHLIST:
                        6'8 Pingris

Even in the international stage, MVP's PBA players have underperformed. Well, outside of Castro and RDO, two of the key pieces of Gilas 2.0.

Correct me na lang if I'm wrong, though.

I remember some 10 years ago someone on PEX said that the Semerad twins were too soft for Philippine basketball (probably because of their looks) some games later the same idiot is complaining that they were dirty players lol. The twins are perfect 3 and D glue guys

First name that comes to mind is Troy.

He really struggles as a 4 in international games. Wish he was still in Tab’s pool. Gives him the chance to play the 3 alongside Balti and Carl.

MVP players underperformed in intl competition? Jimmy, Jason and Ranidel was the best player in 2014 World Cup aside from Blatche.. Also, I thought SMC was the one having a hard time adjusting in fiba. Junemar cant dominate, Lassiter last time he played with gilas struggled with his shooting, Barroca struggled defensively against bigger guards. The only players who I think performed really well internationally was Pingris, Tenorio and Japeth. Ofcourse if we include naturalized players CStan and Pringle.
