Last games he showed he could shoot the 3 better, provide assists, and defend.

Oftana mukhang may fear factor pa rin.

Malonzo just came back from an injury and looks overweight.

Dwight is more of a 2 unless JB plays 4 with Perez or Newsome on the floor at the same time.

Oftana is your guy if SEA and Asian Games, beyond that, kinda iffy, with Malonzo its streaky you learned to take the ups and downs.

Offensively KQ did better with Gilas compared to Oftana & Malonzo, but I think Oftana has earned coach Tim's confidence in the defensive aspect hence Oftana got the more playing time compared to KQ so far.

Oftana, while playing mostly as a four during college days with San Beda, has been transformed into a legitimate small forward in the PBA. At yun naman talaga ang laro ni Oftana. KQ on the other hand, while he has developed a reliable 3-pt shooting, is still developing the handles & the mobility of a natural wingman.

Despite Oftana's struggle in 3-pt shooting with Gilas, I'm still optimistic that his 3-pt shots would start to fall soon in the FIBA game.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

This is why Navarro should be included in the pool.

He already does all the above and arguably better at it.

        CTC is simply too rigid.

        Tuffin and Balti as well.

Dont ask me how but somehow I feel that KQ might turn out to be the better player but Oftana is the better wing right now. KQ is still a bit untested while Oftana has been a pro for a while now. I feel like if we're gonna move on from him it's better to also try to add Navarro , Tuffin or other taller, defensive wings into the mix.

I think if we don't have an defensive big yet, we should add a defensive wing like Navarro.

If we do have that extra defensive big, I think we can afford not to add a defensive wing.

            • So finally SBP is pushing for exemption of Ange Kouame before FIBA that would make Kouame a Pinoy local player. I have a strong feeling FIBA would declare Kouame as a local player. The guy has resided in the Philippines since 2016, studied & played college basketball in the Philippines has represented the country in several international & FIBA games & tournaments.

Now imagine if another young big man in QMB is also declared by FIBA as eligible to play for Gilas as a local player, that would be gravy for Philippine basketball.

                Sources?

That would really solve our present problems with Kai’s injury and Edu’s health being unreliable.

My bad! I only came across such news on 2 YouTube bloggers which I thought were legit & accurate news without checking it on either Spin or Tiebreaketimes to confirm.

As it turns out there isn't any such news or development being reported either in Spin or Tiebreakertimes. Please pardon me bros sroth3839 & live_evil

                    • Just saw Jonel Policarpio's recent game and I think he could be a decent 3 and D guy for the national team. In my opinion he is even better than Ken Tuffin.

I usually take what these Youtube bloggers say with a grain of salt & I would check the news/articles in Spin or Tiebreakers Times to confirm. I just didn't do it this time.

                          • Grandpa Dean already posted his latest stand on AK34 and Malick Diouf future on Philippine basketball moving forward

                            and those other FSA's.

him being the PBA/SBP overall(?) adviser had the inside track to present to his fellow Grandpas about the long term benefits

to those FSA who will be "tag as locals" in the PBA.

and not our domestic league who will benefit for it but also our Gilas program on the long run.

he mentioned in that article about the policy of the Taiwan league on how they treat their own FSA playing in their domestic league

same thing with the B. League wherein Grandpa Willy Wowow is a previous visitor.

someone whispers to me that CTE Basketball are planning to lobby for an exemption on some of their FSA in the immediate future

                            including that 6'10 Senegalese.

on our own backyard, AK34 are already ripe in the picking because he already obtained his PH docs several years ago.

as for Malick Diouf abd the others well it really take sometimes because no one are lobbying for their(possible) respective naturalization bills

we all know some of those FSA's are already establish their own family here with their respective Filipino wives like Karim Abdul and Charles Mammie

so giving them some sort of the consideration to play here as a "local", is just makes sense.

but the first order of the day, our beloved PBA Grandpas should tweak a little bit their Jurassic Policy on eligibility to accommodate those who mentioned.

PBA are preparing for their 50th Season, so it's about time to change for the future.

they really need to innovate and dance to the latest tune otherwise our beloved league will die a natural death.

now that the B.League are planning to remove all the restrictions come 2026-27 Season to accommodate ballers who carries legit Asian passport

                            to join their own D-Day.

Perhaps, the PBA may consider making FSAs eligible for the draft as locals like in Taiwan. Guiding rules could be a team may line up only one FSA at a time, an FSA draft eligible must have stud-ied at least three years in the country or graduated from a Philippine school and may be traded only to a team without an FSA. If this is allowed, competition will be at a higher level as every team gets a chance to draft an FSA. Kouame, who plays as a naturalized player for Meralco in EASL, could then see action as a local in the PBA and it wouldn’t be an unfair advantage since other teams are able to enlist FSAs, too.
What happens to foreign student athletes after they wind up their collegiate eligibility?

Yeah. I think offensively, Policarpio seems better than Tuffin at this point. I just don't know how these 2 players fare comparatively on defense. I think Tuffin is 27 yrs of age while I think Policarpio is around 23 or maybe 24. So I think in terms of overall potential, Policarpio is better.

While Policarpio isn't that consistent (neither is Tuffin), at least when he gets some playing time & gets enough touches, nakaka score sya.

                              • Policarpio is basically like an eligible Kai Balunggay lol. Same skillset, same age bracket, its just that KB is 2 inch taller.
