KQ at 5 is pushing it. Tbh.

He’d get eaten alive by Al-Dwairi, Zhou, Kay, and Abercrombie on the paint.

Maybe could work against small teams like Taiwan or Bahrain.

    • KQ at 2 worked for awhile in that dubai tournament with strong group, there weren't that many speedy guards from mid-east teams. ideally he's a 3 at the world level, gilas is thin at that position anyway. need to improve his perimeter defense tho

also justin gutang is looking like a good newsome replacement already

      • KQ is probably the 2nd best shooter , passer on the team.

Next to brownlee and thompson but he might be behind on everything else compared to the guys in his position

KQ was more of a spot-up shooter then. It helped that he was playing with NBA and G league guys. Watching his debut in KBL it looks like he will play the 4 full time. He improved his team with his shooting. Although he was overpowered by Oh Sekeun in the post a couple of times, he was making his 3s and showed good effort against the bigger Sekeun. Well until the unfortunate landing spot foul by Sekeun. His team is pretty bad. Once he recovers he will definitely get a lot of playing time.

Not that I'm doubting KQ but will he be better than other candidates at the 3 spot like Navarro, Oftana, Orme etc. KQ has been awesome in the UAAP but the guys the other guys in the "pool" are MVP level players too in their amateur days. And we can all agree we need to improve our defense and shooting at that position.

            • we do hope that it ain't that serious.

he had some issues with that ankle before

let's reserve KQ, Jaime and AJ for the preparation of FIBA Asia Cup instead

              Man oh Man!!

the signs of cracks are beginning to show in our core

Dwight, Scooty and Carl also had some history of being glassy.

the clamor of adding some fresh bodies in our current pool is really a

very serious options that need to re-consider nowadays.

Maybe if only KQ didn't rush it to get to the KBL too soon, after a UAAP tournament maybe a 2 months of rest at least.

The Achilles tendon is much worse than the ACL to tear. Although this is just a rupture so hopefully it will not be as worse. Remember that of all the NBA players who tore an Achilless tendon only KD was still at a high level after. Klay Thompson's mobility suffered a lot after the injury. As a result he is far from the player he was in his prime.
Dominique Wilkins got his old form back after tearing his Achilles.

And Achilles tear was ruled out when Malonzo injured his calf.

Yeah. Maybe it's just old reporting about the Achilles. I didn't follow Wilkins. But it ended Isaiah Thomas's career and essentially ended Kobe's career. Rudy Gay also. I think I heard that Achilles from the PBA commentators. Saying something about Malonzo bulked up to strengthen it. This is actually weird. This reminded me of Zave Lucero bulking up for the PBA which by the way he is losing and getting close to to his college form. But by how Malonzo played last game it would be foolish to push him to Gilas duty anytime soon.

Zav has been playing 3 for Mags lately, which was good to see.

As for Malonzo, if he plans on keeping the added weight, he'll need to rely less on athletic moves. And hope it doesn't affect his mobility too much. He'll still need to be mobile enough to guard the perimeter. Ginebra has 3 games left in the elims, maybe we can use that (and some playoff games) to assess him as time goes on, to see if he's fit to go in the Gilas rotation.

                      • Malonzo had a calf injury and not an achilles injury. There was even an option for him to just rest it and let it heal on its own but there was a chance his explosiveness will diminish if he went with that. Surgery on his calf was the option that gave him better odds of keeping his explosiveness.

It's normal that he's still testing his legs and not going all out, it can take a while mentally to fully trust his body.

I think offense wise, KQ is better in the FIBA game than the struggling Calvin Oftana & Will Navarro (who I think is more of a defensive specialist). I just don't know if how KQ fares with either Oftana & Navarro in terms of defense.

                            Good Day Sir Armir,

                            I totally agree.

                            • it's really a foolish if they put Jaime for next month's final window.

let's reserve him and the other glassy guys to the main dance

we've already lost Kai..so better think of the future.

                              • Injuries to AJ Edu, Jamie Malonzo, & recently to Kai Sotto & Kevin Quiambao in a span of 1 year simply suggests the need for coach Tim to expand his pool. I'm not talking about expanding the Gilas pool/team to 10 players or more. I'm just talking about adding 3 to 4 players to the Gilas pool so as the unavailability of some players from time to tim, usually becoz of injuries, will not hurt the team that much. I understand coach Tim's apprehension of making a big pool of players for Gilas becoz having a big pool would mean difficulty in developing team cohesion or chemistry. But I think the ideal No. Of players in a national pool is around 18 players. Also, this is a 4-year cycle so coach Tim has all the time in the world to develop cohesion & chemistry in the pool/team.

Of course, during their early stint with Gilas the additional players would struggle learning & adjusting with the triangle, but as time goes by, as they practice more & play more games with Gilas, they will get more adjusted & accustomed to coach Tim's system.
