Do you guys want Almazan, Erram, Justin Chua, Laput, Sanggalang etc????

Oh, I forgot Baltazar is a pba player now. But he kinda restricted by that "Pineda" guy right?

And Tim Cone already said Justin Ara
Do not add an accent or a tilde to any letter (the n with the -ny sound, for example). It cuts off the post, including the letter with the accent or tilde.

As for your first two paragraphs, yeah, we don't have the deepest pool of bigs. I'd like Kemark Carino to be considered for his timing on defense, but he needs to gain strength, and looks like an offensive liability from what I saw. Mike and Ange need FIBA exemptions. QMB's eligibility is still a question mark. That's why the easiest solution right now to the interior defense is to naturalize a 4/5 who can defend the paint, and who we can pair with Kai. But when the news of Bennie's naturalization process came out, we will have to rely on locals for bigs and defensive pieces.

Balti showed flashes of defensive versatility under Tab, but I wanna see more in the PBA after playing in the MPBL for quite a bit.

To be fair naman to the PBA, there are players which can be considered for Gilas. Will Navarro, Ken Tuffin, Jordan Heading, Robert Bolick, RJ Abarrientos, even Marcio Lassiter (although he's 37 and good only for a short term), Maverick Ahanmisi, and Jayson Castro (although he's 38 and in his current form, not dropping any of the current guards in the pool). Maybe Schonny Winston, Terrence Romeo (if he's healthy), Balti, Arvin Tolentino, and even Troy Rosario if he improves his defense. Kemark Carino and Gian Mamuyac if they improve as well.

However, as of now, the only other PBA players who I feel are deserving of a look are probably ineligible like BGR, Zav Lucero, Alec Stockton, Joshua Munzon, and Kai Ballungay. Outside of them, look elsewhere like the B.League, KBL, even amateur leagues.

        • We need one of the following to get us through Kai's injury:

          - healthy AJ
          - local eligibility of one of QMB, Phillips, Kouame
          - development of Chiu

Else, we have no choice but to settle with Japeth.

I don't like hoping for stuff that may or may not happen. Barring an unlikely eligible QMB I think we need to get serious about a center NP. If Kouame is not enough let's look for another one.

Yeah. We keep calling up Japeth because no one else is there to shore up our frontline and interior defense.

We might wanna look at how Kemark Carino develops too, see if he can become another reserve big. He has good timing inside, and good length. 'Yun nga lang, last I saw, he needs work on his offense and strength.

If we're going to naturalize a big, I think we need someone who can play and guard both 4 and 5. Someone who can play 4 next to Kai and June Mar, and who can man the paint at 5 when neither Kai and June Mar are on the floor. Minimum should be a good interior defender.

Although Bennie's alright in rotations, I saw that interior defense and rim protection aren't exactly his strengths. He needs a good interior defender next to him.

Yep, that will. If at least one of them is on the floor, our defense is OK (of course with the right personnel and scheme around them). It's when they're off the floor where we might have issues without another good interior defender.

Kai just got injured last Sunday (I think it's probably not serious, but still hoping he recovers), and AJ has a history of injuries. We really need to prepare for those possibilities when neither is available. Right now, at least Japeth's there, but he turns 38 this month. I dunno how long can he keep getting called up.

If we don't get an NP who can defend the interior, and we don't have another FIBA-eligible interior defender after Japeth and JB retire, then we better prepare for situations in case neither of Kai and AJ aren't on the floor. I hope it doesn't come to that, though.

First, we need to devise a defensive system that isn't reliant on an interior defender on the level of Kai or even Japeth. That requires both scheme and the personnel to execute it. Cone might devise a scheme, but do we have the players for that?

If we don't have a good enough defense, we might have to rely on firepower. As I said a lot of times, that isn't a strategy I trust because of the times we lost to SoKor in 2017, Kazakhstan in the November-December 2018 FIBA window, and Indonesia in the 2022 SEA Games. Now, we had good enough firepower against NZ last November, and that was powered by JB and Kai. Without Kai, can we do that consistently against at least the other Asian powers?

                          • I noticed that the NP that PBA coaches like to use (CCR, CTC) are players who can carry us offensively. when locals cant make anything, they use an NP who can take over. Dray, JC, JB, and maybe Bennie.

compare to what Coach Rajko or Coach Tab used, Kuya Marcus and Ange, bigs who are there primarily to defend the interior and get rebounds .because of this setup, locals are forced to score night in and night out. Casio, Castro, Terrence, RJ, SJ, and Papa Dwight. the other chip in as well during offensive drought simply because, walang sasalo, tayo tayo dapat.

if you want a big who can carry the offense but still be able to defend and get rebounds.... i think you are looking at a fringe NBA player or someone who is doing quite well either somewhere in Europe or a world import in Japan. dont get me wrong, i'd love to see someone like that, but that will take the ball away from Kai to make the money spent worthwhile. is that something we want though? Bennie is a good compromise, but I'm with you, he isnt really going to help with D or rebounds too much. he wlll still get his stat no doubt. but he is an NBA level scorer and i expect any Gilas coach to maximise his skill.

Ange is literally playing for a PBA team in the EASL too.
