  • Maybe Japeth Aguilar is going to be Gilas' No.1 injured player replacement for the next 20 years.

Everytime a Gilas player won't be available becoz of injury, coach Tim would tap Japeth as replacement.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

When Japeth is our only competent FIBA-eligible interior defender after Kai and AJ, that happens.

But they have learned the system & got used to it as they played more games & practiced with the team under such system. In short, it is a process.

Naka ilang games na ba & practices ang mga non-Ginebra Gilas players under coach Tim's triangle offense? Players like Kai, Dwight & Carl played & practiced with coach Tim's Gilas only for the 1st & 2nd windos & the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Hindi ganoon karaming games yun & practice sessions, yet they already have a good grasp of the triangle. Junmar, CJ Perez, Oftana & Newsome have more games & practices because they played under coach Tim with Gilas in last year's Asian Games, but if you analyze it, hindi pa rin ganoon karaming games yun & practices.

My point here is that if only coach Tim would add around 3 to 4 new players in the Gilas team/pool, after 2 or 3 windows, these new players will have a good grasp of his system. Remember that Gilas will have a longer preparation for the coming 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. If for instance Gilas is given about 4 weeks of training for that tournament, that would be the perfect opportunity for the new players to learn & assimilate themselves with the system, the triangle in particular. Besides, the new players aren't expected to get major minutes & role with the team. They will undergo some sort of immersion naman eh.

Oftana, Newsome, Perez and Junmar has been in the PBA for a long time. CTC already knows how they play, and the players, may not know the X and O of CTCs plays but they have a working idea already.

Kai, Dwight, Carl, and KQ are players that PBA wants to be associated with even if they arent in the league yet. all the yapping by some PBA people a year or 2 ago of KBL or JBL pirating players is all about retaining young Pinoy players they feel will keep PBA relevant. and we all know Kai is on top of that list. AJ barely plays because of injury. I have no idea why Amos is in the pool at all. maybe they think he will be KQ like in the future? he is a mirror image of Konov, so dont know what his possible role is in the future.

As for fit, my concern is if we can get a reserve defensive wing and a reserve defensive big. The others, bahala na lang.

The main concern I have with Cone's familiars is age. I have a feeling that a lot of players who Coach Tim knows are over 30. Few questions lang:

        1. How many of the guys Coach Tim knows can play beyond 2028?
        2. In the pool, do we have enough players who can play beyond 2028?

By the World Cup, Dwight (28 going 29), AJ (27), Carl (26), Quiambao (26), Kai (25), and Mason (23) will be the pool members under 30. Oftana and Malonzo will be 31 by then, as well as Bennie Boatwright. Ange will be 30. They can still make the next FIBA cycle, though.

That's why I think there will be a reckoning. If you're bringing back Japeth's retired ass everytime but saying that the pool is just fine means the pool is not fine. Tim Cone is just walking the fine line of bringing a good team and pleasing SMC. When losses start we will reexamine the NP slot. If you want height bring Chiu. If you want some rim protection bring in Balti. It doesn't mean that because there is no other 6'9 guy with longs arms and good hops that you bring the same retired guy all over again. There is more than one way to skin a cat but TC's answer all the time is un-retire Japeth.

JDV was Ginebra's 3rd-most serviceable center after Japeth and JB last conference. Hahahahahaha.

Right now, we have JB, who is a good enough defender to compensate in case Kai and AJ are off the floor.

However, after JB retires, the way I see it based on the current skillsets of the locals, Kai and AJ are the keystone to our defense. If both of them are off the floor for extended stretches against the Asian powers and non-Asian teams, how will we compensate without a good interior defender as an NP?

We will need to find a way to prevent rim pressure when both of Kai and AJ are off the floor, especially after JB retires. Actually, we need to find that way even before JB retires.

Cone and sbp should look on our best young ineligibles like harper jr. and boogie ellis. Harper jr. Is around same ht. As brownlee and ellis is around 6'3 combo guard

Dont like they're forcing a not 100% boatwright to play and boatwright not answering emails or calls.

                    • PBA's parochial thinking harming Gilas again. Expect to heat "We won the Asian Gold and beat Latvia" to be an all-purpose excuse or defense whenever they get criticized, the same way Chot used his trip to Spain to defend midget-ball.

Honestly, I think the only KBL and B.League players worth considering at this point (outside the players in the pool) are Gutang, SJ, and maybe Kiefer and Javi GDL. Maybe Chiu in case of emergency. Juan GDL needs to get his bearings back. Wright hasn't performed that well with Gilas.

Abando's worth considering, but he doesn't have a team yet.

Forgot Parks, sorry. Thanks, sir SK.

As for Scottie, he's a good defender at the PG spot. For that alone, I find it hard to advocate for dropping him from the pool.

SJ, I saw him try hard on defense in the 2022 Asia Cup. I felt he was kinda similar to LA Tenorio at that time. Playmaking, scoring, defensive effort.

                            • I know Junmar and Japeth have their lapses in Fiba. But let's be real. They are the only good local pba gilas eligible bigs to be acquired in PBA

Do you guys want Almazan, Erram, Justin Chua, Laput, Sanggalang etc????

Oh, I forgot Baltazar is a pba player now. But he kinda restricted by that "Pineda" guy right?

And Tim Cone already said Justin Ara

His last 2 tournaments, iskati played bad. Got outplayed by back up (kiefer). And in asian games he played bad as well..

As for SJ, he's having an all star year. Playing solid defense this season and better shooting..
