Similar to why Nigeria was allowed to field all those nigerian—americans, to advance the game of basketball in the country

        and Bahamas.

FIBA is such a joke with this rule and how strictly enforced it is for some, but not for others.

          • Fajardo is still valuable for Gilas. No one among our big men can bang like Junemar inside the paint.

            • I say Junmar is Gilas' best back-to-the-basket offensive player (not Kai Sotto or AJ Edu or Japeth). Junmar is an immovable force inside the shaded lane that once he's inside the paint, he's very difficult to contain.

I say Gilas has variety in the center spot with Kai, Junmar, Edu, Japeth having different characteristics each is different from one another.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

              • JMF has world-class strength (physical strength) while Kai has world-class length. It's why despite their speed issues, they're still a problem against certain teams. They also work well with the old-school triangle system.

If we're going to continue to employ this strategy...strength + length...I think among the local candidates that can approximate the strength that JMF brings is Chiu and QMB. They have the size and body frame for it. They're also old-school centers. QMB is promising because he has a bit of white gene (which usually scores high on strength) + more mobility.

I think moving forward, we should stash at least 2 NPs. A JB-type we can use when our bigs are available and a NP big when we're shorthanded on local bigs.

                • The main reason why the pinoys were not able to crush nz is the lack of plays and playing time for designated volume shooters. Cone should have set more plays for kikiam, heading, oftana and amos for that very vital role in nt wars. Like most, if not all, pba coaches, cone must know what local plays work -- or doesnt work -- at world top 20 battles.

Indeed, against anything other than aus, which has too many nba-exposed players, pinoys can easily win at asian level with virtually an all-pinoy cast with at least two or more volume shooters.

Just include competent local bigs like qmb and ange, as extra bigs, and pinoys can hammer down all others. Kai and abai can handle even beyond-asian centers and power forwards. Edu is just too brittle for regular roles. But if he ever is fit to play, these big 5 can neutralize the best big frontlines of europe and south america. Im not too sanguine with a geo chiu spot. But he is more than a good enough pf against the likes of china, korea or japan. If edu or kouame is not available, chiu is it.

And here is something that dumbf*ck sitio smallball afficionados like coach seyer never understood: strong and capable bigs forces opponents away from oppressing volume shooters. This is why a kai and abai tandem -- who are very good at humiliating plays in the paint -- ALWAYS frees perimeter shooters to deal havoc on opposing teams.

( Even chua recognizes this; he actually is bringing back slaughter. His last barangay team should have lost 4-1 against tnt if seyer understood what the likes of oftana are for. If i may digress, foolish mount green is also crazily not using up's advantage in pfc paired bigs to the max. This is why his tiny guards like cagulangan and overly-favored nu-graduated guards will likely become bitter losers again in s87. Nothing can be more frustrating than seeing basketball coaches who dont fully understand basketball.)

Against something as strong as aus, you need at least two nba-class super-athletic np big guards or small forwards. Clarkson or jalen green would do. Plus a non-np filfor like maybe a harper. Who knows, somebody might actually know a filfor super-athlete even better than harper ( a youtubed presentation of non-np "localizable" candidate "jalen greens" would be nice). Then you can say goodbye also to the likes of nz vodanovich, and that corey webster braggart who can captain only a mere losing team. The idiot didnt see that his team got erased 44-31 in the rebounding battle. It was only because cone is not good in volume shooting plays, like sokor coaches, that pinoys lost 18-8 against nz 3point assaults; cone lost 10 crucial points just there.)

With the abovementioned team, our nt is good for top 20. It will even beat aus in a home-and-away format. This is as good as it gets for an asian nt.

                  • I'm watching the Rockets right now. There's a good chance that Jalen Green will get a USA call up by next Olympics. He looks like he figured it out and is growing rapidly.

I know it sounds crazy but if all our locals and ineligibles work out perfectly + Jalen Green, we have a puncher's chance against even Australia.

                    • I wish Junemar stays healthy. He can still serve in Gilas for at least five years. Of course, at the end of his career only as a back up.

Our lead could have been bigger if only Ramos had made more of his open shots. But let's be honest as long as a PBA coach handles our NT, we won't see variations in our offensive scheme.

Tim Cone, relieance on efficiency and familiarity is the reason we won. That why he had a short rotation. It help us catch up with NZ despite being down 9 pts several times. Able to keep the lead despite NZ efforts to catch up. The players are season veterans and not easily rattled.

Total opposite of a team like Rain or Shine. We're players have opportunities to score and defend. They are able to play on a higher pace and you need to guard all of them as they are threats. But like there semi finals vs TNT, efficiency is not there as players don't get the same minutes each games except for imports.

                          • Well, I’m ok with how Cone handle Gilas not perfect but much better than Chot…. Though he has limited rotation as 3 players played more than 30 mins each as opted on familiarity. A win is a win… onward against HK he must utilise more on youngsters like Amos and Quiambao…
