I would rate Edu and Kai being injury-free higher than an Ange exemption as something we really need. Of course Ange getting exempted would be nice too.

Either way, for me we still need a naturalized nba-level big if we want to compete against higher level tiers. We are afforded more choices in wings and guards, while international-level bigs are still in limited supply.
We need bigs who can at least defend the interior so that in case AJ or Kai misses a key window, we still have a good interior defender, and we don't have to keep calling up Japeth anymore.

In addition, our 3 spot has to be solid defensively as well to the point that it will be harder for the opponent to get dribble penetration.

At least at the 3, we still have choices not included in the pool like Navarro, Tuffin, etc. Since we only get 1 NP, it's still that big who can defend high-tier teams that makes most sense.

And I agree on the defensive big. After Kai and AJ, our only FIBA-level interior defender is 37yo Japeth. Maybe Kemark Carino, as he has shown good defensive instincts in the PBA. But yeah, our local options are limited, so our best bet is either an NP or an exemption for guys like Ange and Mike Phillips.

If we want a go-to guy then at least get someone who can both score and defend the paint.

It would be nice if Baltazar starts playing against guys his own size so we can properly assess him. Also, given 10 years, I think there's a possibility Chiu can work himself into a serviceable Gilas big.

and Tamayo is having a hard time posting against players taller or similar in height against him in KBL

Yes, that is the process. He's up against guys he can't overpower or just outsize, now he's forced to get better and figure it out. That's how athletes get better.

Young players who keep playing against guys they can easily dominate are not growing.

An exemption of Kouame or QMB (both will be better) will definitely solve our frontline woes in the next 10 years.

Well, Carl Tamayo is more like a facing-the-basket type of a "four" which is the skill set of most fours in modern day basketball.

                    • Chua is officially in

SBP president Al Panlilio confirmed the appointment of PBA vice chairman/Ginebra governor Alfrancis Chua as Gilas project director and team manager during a meeting with the coaches, players and staff at the Inspire Sports Academy, Calamba, last Friday.

                      • I always want to look at our national team rosters since 2000. I tried to form a team that can win gold in FIBA-Asia. After looking back, these are the players that I think that can win the us gold:

                        Guards:

                        - Jimmy Alapag
                        - Jason Castro
                        - Mark Caguioa
                        - Cyrus Baguio
                        - Chris Newsome

                        Forwards:

                        - Dwight Ramos
                        - Gabe Norwood
                        - RDO
                        - Marc Pingris
                        - Kelly Williams

                        Bigs:

                        - Andray Blatche
                        - Kai Sotto/AJ Edu

                        Mema lang.
                        Attack
                        defend
                        Unite

CJ Perez instead of Skyrus Baguio
                            Danny Seigle instead of Pingris

I honestly would love Junmar to be there.

I picked Cyrus Baguio for a very good reason. Per Seigle, I doubt if he can translate his game in international. Pingris was already proven. He and RDO gave the intangibles during their Gilas runs.

I think Carl's a bit of both, actually. He can play with his back to the basket, and while facing the basket.
