Maybe that was pre pandemic who SBP lobby his status.. Cstand just started his playing years in the PBA in 2018.. that means that time Cstand didn't meet the eligibility requirements for exemption yet.. I think now he has a chance already since he has already 6 years of playing in the Philippines... If we based the previous exemption for Newsome and Greg, both already here more than 10 years here in the Philippines...

Did CS study in RP? Yes? If not still NO.. newsome study in ateneo for 2-3 years. Same as greg.

SBP can use Justin Young of Vietnam, Brandon Jawato of Indonesia, Tyler Lamb, Moses Morgan and Frederick Lish of Thailand as those cases.. All of them didn't study in their respective countries.. They just stay for a longer period of time in their countries, played in their domestic leagues prior to exemption... and they have connections to their respective countries such as they have residential address to their countries and connections to their federation and their main league (That is according to FIBA eligibility rulebook).. But we all know it's too late because Cstand's playing years is nearing his prime years.. Better use it to much younger players...

It's in the fiba rule book. Don't force things.

          • Watching some video highlights of AJ Edu's team Nagasaki Velca show Edu being such a good defender. He can chase opposing team's big men in the perimeter & can easily stay in front of them. Edu is also a reliable rim protector as well. He isn't getting that much latitude in offense at Nagasaki but that's understandable becoz of the presence of multiple world imports who get the lionshare of points. But with Gilas, Edu is getting the opportunities in scoring. At Nagasaki, Edu's points are coming from simple plays & put backs. With Gilas we saw that Edu can hit those medium range jumpers & he can even hit 3's.

This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

I think you are not aware what Sec. Zagklis said "if you obtain a passport after 16, You must prove that you have strong connection or link to your country that you want to represent "... What doesn't mean? You have to be connected by that country you will represent.. Not just you have to study here, But you have also have strong connection to the federation, the mother league (in the Philippines, it's the PBA), They just lobby Cstand case just in 2019, just a year or 2 (he first played in the Philippines for Gilas).. It's not enough to get exemption that time.. Young, Lish, Jawato already played for their respective countries longer via playing for their respective professional leagues in their respective countries... Yeah, attending school at your younger years is an advantage but not all countries relying school base programs to their basketball programs.. In Europe, it's academies such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Olympiacos, Phanatikos or Paris are their starting ground of their basketball programs.. That's why FIBA stated that if a person wants to be a local to their country that he/she wants to represent too, they just to have stronger link to their country that they want to represent... While we are attached to American style of basketball program, most of the countries copying European style of basketball program... Lish, Young, Jawato, Morgan, etc.. played professional basketball in their respective countries for more than 10 years.. another case of basic links to get exemption...

Will JC play without an "allowance" though, i dont think SMC will pay him the same amount as MVP group did

                  • Nz is sending a formidable team. It is very far from Nz fanboy's prediction that Nz will be sending lesser players.
This would be a good test for our Gilas team.

                    • not directed to anyone in particular. After Greg and Marcio, gilas fans kept bringing up we need to exempt this player or that player.
despite being able to get Wright, Heading, Edu bros, Harris, Konov, and the others, we still want more. despite the current new possible players in HS and college, players whose height should help the national team (noone around Kai's height unfortunately) we still want to exempt players. I feel like, if SBP has short comings, fans want FIBA to help us with this short comings. Why dont we demand from SBP more rather than looks for ways for FIBA to patch whatever failures of the PH NSA?
Hagop was in place to force NSA's to either recruit early, earlier than knowing if kids will become good or not, or use money for grassroot programs. vloggers has been good at doing vids of kids. some looks better than others, but still a good way to expose them to the public. same with kids outside the country. if someone doesnt get passport, it sucks but we should learn to move on.

I have a feeling that the NZ national team is on its rebuilding stage as a good number of players in their mid & early 20's are in its roster for the 2nd window. Also a good number of its national team veterans like Shea Ili, Finn Delany, Ethan Rusbatch, Jordan Ngatai, are not in the 2nd window roster.

                        • I think that is their best roster and they just miss Yanni Wetzell. Those you mentioned were already old and just riding the bench or out of this NBL season. We will wait for NZ fanboys report of their team and let them lay out the notable omissions of their current roster.

                            • Hypothetical question guys:

If for instance Stephen Holt is FIBA eligible, would you prefer him for Gilas instead of CJ Perez? Holt seems to have decent 3pt shooting & can play point guard. Perez on the other hand has very inconsistent 3-pt shooting & is a natural wingman. Holt also is about 2 inches taller than Perez.
