  • I also like to see Capt. Go for Gilas. He was a stabilizing presence in that.

    • If the PBA is keen on helping Gilas and not doing this as a publicity stunt, then it should have no problems whatsoever as to whoever the SBP wants to field in, including Kouame.

Dami arte ng GILAS, pinasali na nga gusto pa manalo lol.

Perhaps they could offer a compromise and sit Kouame a la Slaughter in crucial moments against SMC teams

Took me a while to get the sarcasm. Hahahahahaha.

Haha that'd be hilarious. I actually feel for most PBA teams knowing how scarce quality bigs are in the PBA. Up to now, we are still seeing 6’ 4”-6’ 5” guys manning the slot. But not having Kouame on the Gilas roster when he is being groomed as one of the pillars of 2023 is such abwaste. But yeah, better than nothing. But running your plays and defensive schemes with Go or Chiu in lieu of Ange, Kai or Edu simply won’t do. Simply different dynamics.

I'll do you better, PBA heads should just be direct with SBP in the first place and tell them that there would be no chance for Gilas to be included in the playoffs even if they sweep the eliminations, kinda like the Jordan B Team's recent participation in this year's King Abdullah Cup.

Siguro naman na it'd be enough of a compromise na just for the Gilas boys to have some serious court burn.

I agree, this is the best compromise. Gilas gets to play Kouame and the rest of the guys while PBA teams' championship chances are not affected, plus a boost of viewership from the Gilas fans.

I'm not kidding when I say there are tons of people now who knows who Thirdy, Dwight, Kai, Kobe, Kiefer, etc is but don't know who Junemar is. Crazy how even my younger cousins and nieces are liking and commenting on posts regarding GILAS and our Bleague imports who are not even casual basketball fans. To think these names used to be only familiar to a members of this forum and other sites.. a lot has changed in the last 2 years

Pero upside pa lang, not current talent. Plus, the impact of Kai and Dwight in the FIBA Asia qualifiers and the OQT, I dunno if that can easily be replaced.

It's imperative that Tab gets a good roster to prepare if they plan to participate.
I forgot to mention Dave Ildefonso, he's easily one of the higher-upside players I see in this Gilas group. The fact that he's learning to play point (as shown in the King's Cup); if he perfects it, he'll be tough to stop. Just needs to polish his scoring.

Man, I hope more high-upside players take the Gilas invitation.

Dave needs to practice playmaking if he wants to be PG. But I think his skill set is more of a SG than a PG.

Btw, Raven Cortez and Kevin Quiambao should be invited again next gilas call up. Last time, they were excused because of academic reasons.

I think the second one where quiambao was invited, he said in IG that he cant because he is in an out of country vacation trip.lol

Sayang, Raven and Quiambao can be twins of Tamayo and Balti in terms of playstyle.

Yeah, Quiambao was already being prepped to play the perimeter in NSNU. Cortez looks like he has the potential too. I hope he's recovered from his knee issues. I hope they both accept, kasi sayang ang upside kung nakatengga lang. It would be good for them, good for Gilas, and good for La Salle kasi they'll be better players for it. But JAMSKIE says that it will be unlikely.

But, Tab still does have Kyle Ong in Ateneo, who plays similar to Demisana and Salvoro, and is 6'8" like them.

As for Dave, yeah, he'll need to improve his playmaking and shot creation, but even if he is an SG, he can still be a secondary handler or playmaker, which will be invaluable to us in the long run.

                        • Why is it that I have this feeling that coach Tab doesn't really like that much the idea of a Gilas stint in the PBA 2nd conference? Maybe that is if only Gilas can train overseas in the next 2 to 3 months or so. But I have a feeling SBP & Gilas doesn't have much options as of this moment. With that, coach Tab & SBP have to take the PBA option so as to keep the Gilas boys sharp & in very good playing condition. PBA style of play may not simulate the FIBA game, but playing in the PBA is still better than not playing competitive basketball anywhere in the next few months prior to the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifying window on February.

And of course as a Gilas supporter, I want to see some Gilas basketball while FIBA basketball is not yet on its season.

Even if Dave would not be able to convert himself into a natural point guard, a 2-guard (a good size at that at 6-foot-4) with some point guard qualities - passing, high court awareness, good decision making, ball handling, would be very valuable for Gilas.

I really have no idea, but maybe he values overseeing training camp and I want that too, but it seems like they don't have any options at the moment. Like you, I am also dying to see some Gilas action. I think with the B-league situation and the Heading situation, the SBP plans got side-stepped. I think once they handle the heading issue, we will see some updates on what they will decide.

It would be preferable if they played a few PBA games and then flew to Europe or wherever Tab desired for training camp. Maybe the new Gilas guys (Nonoy, Cortez, Etc) if ever can play in the PBA, handled by Coach Jong? Then Tab, with Balty, Tamayo, and others, could go to the overseas training? Or both? I hope we get some updates soon.

Thirdy, Dwight, & Kobe's stints with Gilas & of course their current stint in the B-league have made them some sort of household names in the Philippines. This to think that some 2 to 3 yrs. ago, these players specially Dwight Ramos, aren't really that popular in the Phi basketball community. Some 2 years ago, Dwight Ramos was relatively unknown to averaged Pinoy basketball fans. But right now, sikat na sya.

I have some friends who could be considered averaged basketball fans & upon seeing Dwight playing for Gilas, they asked me kung saan galing si Dwight.
