Is there limitations of taking exemptions? Or because of "developing basketball nation" criteria? We are talking this long time ago.. now even Thon Maker will switch from Australia to South Sudan as a local player and before Eric Gordon of Bahamas... If the rules that FIBA applied you said then those players should not allowed too.. or just we need to pay big for their exemptions...
you basically answered your own questions. I think that's the reality of things in FIBA, it is what it is.

It's still complicated because, 1st, what are the categories of "developing basketball nation"? 2nd, Thon Maker and Eric Gordon classified as locals despite they not having residency, Why is that? And last how many exact years of residency needed to be classified as local player?

      • The press release would always be: "Each case is different, so one case cannot be used as a precedent to another"
But truth is FIBA is just another private entity, and SMC may just want to know the price tag. So yeah sure rules are
rules but really who are they kidding It is what it is.

im gonna guess this was the intended plan for JC, remember during that time where the press release was JC had a ph passport all along. it fell apart when SBP realized the cost (paying FIBA) and paying Clarkson was too high.

That's why the rules of FIBA regarding to eligibility is too complicated.. And I don't like it BTW.. FIBA has to be fair with all entities just what FIFA did...

How many exemptions do Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia have? How many exemptions are in people’s fantasy here? That would be at least 10. We already have exemptions in Greg and Newsome. I forgot who else. We each have our exemptions. There is no fast rule there. We are not victims here. It’s weird to hear us complain everytime we do not get an exemption for a 20 year old as if every country gets it all the time.

Thailand has 3, Vietnam and Indonesia have only 1.. Philippines already have Lassiter, Lutz, Slaughter, Newsome and Ahamnisi.. but we just only used Newsome out of 5 players were exempted... We waste other players due to availability and politics...

Yeah, Newsome's the only exemption that truly panned out for us, but even he's a short-term player due to his age.

We need to choose who to exempt. Someone that fills pressing needs, and someone who's stayed here for a while.

I dont know if that was an exemption in the first place, actually. He had a passport at 7 or 8, similar to Malonzo and Schonny.

                            • With RJ Abarrientos getting drafted into Ginebra I think its about time he gets a Gilas call up. Im pretty sure with RJ's ball handling, shot making and vision he will no doubt impress CTC and at least earn himself a spot on that rumored extended player pool.

If he is good I think he gets called up. He plays like Mav Ahanmisi then he doesn't.
