They tried to apply for local with pringle. many times denied.. besides holt is what? 32? they’ll consider the number of years of players played in local league and the associated with the country.. on that part pringle failed. Pringle like barefield are same age when they enter the league..
It's a different time, and knowing Chua's and RSA's drive for excellence esp after a strong OQT, they'd barged onto FIBA's door demanding not "requesting"
Like I said anything is possible

Rules are rules.. and it’s not different times.. same rules like before.. They will use the stanley pringle case on them..

a core of Barefield, Dwight, Holt, AJ and Kai will dominate Asia until 2028
Manifesting: Philippines top 5 in the FIBA World Rankings
PH passport before 16 years old is possible for foreign-born players. Based on my understanding, there are two ways to do so:
1. Derivative citizenship - where the PH citizenship of the person naturalized is passed to his children in accordance with the conditions provided under the law.
2. Legislative naturalization - where the person has been naturalized through the act of Congress. you don't have to be 21 years old or older to undergo this process. case in point: Favour Onoh, 18 years old.
Exemption is still possible for other cases even if our naturalization process, judicial or administrative, has a minimum age requirement:
1. Years of residence;
2. The fact that one studied here in the Philippines;
3. Basketball heritage (has the Philippines contributed to the basketball development of the player?);
4. Number of years that one played basketball in our domestic leagues (this does not state whether one should be classified as local).
Note: this is just my legal theory based on our laws as well as the FIBA eligibility rules.
Note stanley pringle was applied for local for many times but each time, fiba says no
Holt just got his passport few years ago so as barefield..

Please understand this guys. Thanks
Noone's overlooking the rules here so not sure why people can't speculate about how things "could be" in the next 5-7 years or so..
When I said things are different, i meant to say who's leading Gilas (SMC). And for some reason, there's more confidence for the future of Gilas with them at the helm.
And by "confidence" , there's a feeling that SMC can succeed in areas that the MVP group may have faltered (exemption cases, workarounds and what not).

People are overlooking this.. rregardless whether smc or mvp, the rules still the same. smc can't pba the fiba..
Barefield is 27 same age as pringle when he applied for pba draft.. holt is 32.. all those said categories barefield and holt failed in those categories.
Again this is not whose in charge in sbp. Even ayala vouch that, rules are rules.
At this point with all this hoopla of Barefield and Holt getting FIBA exemptions Im all for it and hoping somehow SMC/SBP pulls it off. Because in my opinion Thompson is not the right point guard for Gilas moving forward.
Why did Thailand List, Morgan and Lamb can play all together while Pringle can't.
Maybe because Thailand is under "developing basketball nation"... But my question now is for FIBA, what is their category for "developing basketball nation"? They categories Bahamas and South Sudan under "developing basketball nation" while they can beat some basketball contenders in the world...

Ginebra fan here and I strongly agree. If they don't want Bolick, make every effort in getting an A+ caliber of lead guard (not the midgets) or at least invite Panopio for a tryout.

But I have a question... Justin Young of Vietnam, Lamb, Lish and Morgan of Thailand, Jawato of Indonesia getting a pass while Pringle and Cstand are not? Is there limitations of taking exemptions? Or because of "developing basketball nation" criteria? We are talking this long time ago.. now even Thon Maker will switch from Australia to South Sudan as a local player and before Eric Gordon of Bahamas... If the rules that FIBA applied you said then those players should not allowed too.. or just we need to pay big for their exemptions...
