Notes: In the King's cup, there was a change in the system. Per Tab, the team was not playing to win and was experimenting. SJ Belangel is supposedly working on his body. We should see a more muscular SJ. Dave talks about how hard it was for him to play more off-ball and what it was like to play for Gilas.

Forgot, Juan wasn't also invited to the pool. Damn.

Well, at least he performed well today. 15 points (6-11 FG, 3-7 3PT), 5 rebounds, 9 assists.

      • This kid Dave Ildefonso, if he would be able to assimilate himself well with coach Tab's system & depart from the go-to-guy mentality that he is used to playing collge & high school basketball, I think he will be a very good prospect for Gilas for the 2-guard spot. At 6-foot-4, Dave is a good size shooting guard, whose offensive skills, in my opinion, is better than Thirdy. Mas athletic lang talaga is Thirdy kay Dave, but in terms of shooting, & other offensive skills, I think a current Dave Ildefonso is better than when Thirdy was on around 21 yrs of age (current age of Dave).

The import height limit just killed the chance of Gilas playing in the PBA, unless an exception is allowed for Kouame as our naturalized player. That said, better if they train abroad.

Pero oo nga, not much news on Gilas since the King's Cup. I hope they're training on their own right now, and hopefully they'll train for the Feb window. I think Tab should look to invite promising players too. Anonuevo, Demisana, Basti Reyes, Cansino, Lazaro, Policarpio, Quiambao, Cortez, Salvoro, Gagate, probably Justine Sanchez.

I hope the coaches are telling him about these players. Opportunity 'to to make them better for Gilas, and also their respective schools. It will improve Philippine basketball.

If only we're living in a perfect world. Philippine basketball doesn't even come close to a perfect world, in fact its too very very far from a perfect world.

I would love to see Quiambao, Lantaya, Lepalam, Abando, Ambohot, Evan Nelle, Raven Cortez, in the Gilas training pool. We know this won't happen any time soon. Maybe we'll wait 2 to 3 more yrs.

There are really a lot of evils/devils in Phi basketball. Yung pinaka demonyo dyan eh yung long hair who is very much involved both in pro & college basketball.

Yeah. But maybe a near perfect world in terms of their basketball situation are that of Serbia, Spain, Lithuania, France

IPC said it well. With the height limit, the chances of Gilas playing look lower, but from what I heard from Tab's interview before, he is totally open to joining the PBA in the 2nd conference. If there is no training abroad set up, then I think playing in the PBA will be the best option for our guys. Maybe they can make an exception for Kouame. I think it would be better if the SBP did both; play a few games in the PBA and then fly abroad for training.

I say Gilas should play in the PBA 2nd Conference (if the team has nothing else to do then better play against PBA teams than to remain idle), then train abroad by the middled or late January next year. I think Kume Marcial have already said a couple of times that PBA is very open to the idea of accepting Gilas as a guest team in the 2nd conference. That I think makes sense since PBA is aware of the many Gilas followers who will probably follow the team's stint in the PBA. Kumbaga magbe benefit din naman ang PBA doon.

Sa bagay, they need more exposure against the likes of Shabazz, Brownlee, and KJ. All athletic wings. More experience in defending them will be crucial. We'll be facing plenty of them in the FIBA Asia Cup, with the Middle East teams, China, and even SoKor and Japan. Bigs kasi, I think the team kinda has that covered with Kai and Kouame, along with Tamayo and Baltazar.

Hopefully Tab can call up new faces and test them, whether in the PBA or in FIBA or overseas.

Yeah, they were, and that’s the beauty of a developmental young team. The ugly parts of the game can help the SBP and the coaching staff decide and modify. Our guards in the ACQ-OQT are young, and games like these will fast track their growth. It was unfortunate that better players were not available at that time. I think with a Kiefer/Bolick in the OQT plus an uninjured Dwight, we could have arguably finished the impossible against Serbia and better defended the quick guards of the DR.

I agree, Gilas' inclusion will surely boost the PBA numbers. I haven’t followed the PBA since the 2015 fiasco. If they play in the PBA, I will surely follow them in that conference.

Well, the PBA's still open to including Gilas: https://tiebreakertimes.com.ph/tbt/p...-vargas/224436

I hope they make an exception for Kouame. Kasi, height limit and all.

It doesn't make any sense for the PBA to prohibit Kouame from playing with Gilas on its PBA stint. Is the PBA scared of Gilas? Come on, Gilas doesn't look that formidable without Kai, Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena, Kobe Paras.

Is SMB scared that Kouame might make Junmar Fajardo run for his money at the center spot? Is Ginebra so worried that Kouame might make miserable for Standhardinger inside the shaded lane? If PBA decides to prohibit Kouame from playing for Gilas in the PBA, then we know which party/team/empire is behind it.

Even without Kai, Dwight, Thirdy, and Kobe, there are still a couple of high-upside players in Gilas. Tamayo and Baltazar, and maybe Abarrientos. Pero upside pa lang, not current talent. Plus, the impact of Kai and Dwight in the FIBA Asia qualifiers and the OQT, I dunno if that can easily be replaced.

It's imperative that Tab gets a good roster to prepare if they plan to participate.

I want to see Cholo Anonuevo in Gilas uniform for Gilas' stint in the PBA. Also I want to see Allain Bulanadi's mettle.
