Motor Mike already played via Cambodia SEAG that's a good start moving forward.
Hepa if he's interested to change allegiance even though he is already a ph doc holder(?) before turning 16 then SBP and USAB should agreed on the terms to be submitted to the Sec Gen. for immediate approval.
QMB it's much easier to deal with the big fellow nowadays now that he is here in PHI
for this discussion how about adding the ff: on our SEAG wishful thinking.
Remy Martin - already obtained his ph doc after his 16th bday,
Keith Datu - early 20's
Luis Villegas - early 20's
Sedrick Barefield even though he is now in his mid-20's there's still a small window of hope

Does tim cone really not considering lebron lopez as one of extended pool members (same tier as mason amos) potential cj perez role but can play 2,3,4.(can be Justin brownlee alternate (maybe not in production but in defensive standpoint)..
So that makes Benny boatwright a fit as longa s you put a lebron or caelum harris with him..kq/dwight will grow as the hybrid guards..To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

But unlike Japan were doing it outside home soil.
The system and culture that Coach Cone is implementing is finally giving us a sense of direction. With continuous experience against high level teams and with a system in place of giving younger guys chances, we could be onto something.
Let's just hope the team can finally have multiple years of stability and support.

I wished that identity when Tab was program director. Now Cone is the one implementing it.

Agreed. We need defenders like Lopez, Bayla, and Mike in the team.
For exemptions i wish CTC and boss Al would prioritize
M. Philipps
Kouame (JF replacement)
QMB (AJ Edu insurance)
Sedrick Barefield (elite PG)
Holt (elite PG w/ great size despite being 32, a better Newsome i think)
Ballungay and Koon? Sure but no urgency since i believe Lopez, Calleum & Konov can cover Kai B's talents and either Holt or Barefield is a better option than Koon at the backcourt.

If we can employ this in our youth teams (something that is very difficult because of its complex nature/time needed to learn), then we will truly have a "national" system. It's a type of offense that raises the BBIQ of young players when they truly learn it.

I feel Lopez is a natural 4 who has some potential to play the 3 spot - that is if he improves his shooting & ball handling."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Originally posted by Metta View PostWhew, good job advancing Gilas.
Our surprise factor was gone and main guys were exhausted. We did not have the advantage with bigs like against Latvia, and Georgia did a good job of exploiting it.
But once again, Manilacone, Justin Noypi and total team effort comes up in the clutch. I was afraid Georgia was going to use zone on us, it turns out we were the ones who will use it. It took away Georgia's rhythm and enabled our guys to play another type of defense which was not unsustainable because of fatigue.
Bench help which we anticipated will be crucial, also came through. During times where JB looked exhausted, Dwight then Tamayo then Perez did mini-runs of their own. Total team effort and guys stepping up which are Coach Cone specialties.
We're finally forming a team identity that can work at these higher levels. With additional pieces and more experience against higher level teams, I like our direction.
I think we need to retire the Puso mantra. For me, even if it's already used by Ginebra, I like what Barangay means...
One journey, one people, one boat...Barangay Gilas Pilipinas.Originally posted by CoJ View PostI thought puso was retired once CTC took ovet, i barely hear the team shout it during huddles?Originally posted by Metta View PostYes, I meant to say officially retire. Puso for me is too emotional, exemplified by the basketbrawl.
Now, with this Barangay vibes that I get with the current team, everyone is just doing their job and helping each other to the best of their ability...that soundbite of an angry Cone..."just do your job!" resonates. Everyone trusting each other to do their part (with the triangle, on defense, with stepping up) just like in a Balangay boat and with a little touch of "never say die."Originally posted by JAMSKIE View PostI'm thinking maybe "utak" is a better battlecry!!!A poster here have once proposed that. Parang Gilas needs more brains than heart.
Si Chot kasi puro drama kaya "puso" ang slogan ng Gilas during his term. Coach Tim on the other hand isn't big with drama & would rather work on game tactics & strategy so "utak" should be the right battlecry for the current Gilas team.
More so than what Chot's teams have had after 2016.

For one, I don't think Lopez' dribbling skills would be anywhere near that of CJ Perez, unless Lopez sort of miraculously improve his handles in the next few years. I don't think Lopez can play the 2-guard spot which is Perez' natural position.
I feel Lopez is a natural 4 who has some potential to play the 3 spot - that is if he improves his shooting & ball handling.
At 6'5", he's short for the 4. He needs to work on perimeter play (as in 3/2 or just 3) to be a good candidate for FIBA play.

I think the triangle (with a few tweaks) is also a crucial part of the identity. Not a lot of teams use it anymore so opposing teams do not have experience against it. It also kinda fits our non-elite shooting, our physical style and it puts an end to our "boy-dribble" tendencies. It's also perfect when you have an MJ/Kobe type of player...which should be reserved for our NP. And more importantly, it complements the type of defense that we want.

Also worth noting, is. Phil Jackson' coaching umbrella, has a very unimpressive record . His successors that ran the triangle: Jim Cleamons, Kurt Rambis, Derek Fisher, Brain Shaw, all tried it a all failed.
