  • I would rather go for Panopio. Guy is used to playing against bigger players. That is why Perez and Oftana looked like they were lost against Poland. The PBA babied them.

    • SK vouching for Kiefer's redemption and Jamskie is vouching for Alec's sounk for Gilas.program.. I think high time for tim.to give guys like Stockton Arana opportunities in a "team b" setting..

As kiefer will get his thru( sga and mighty spoets back then)
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Arana will be far down, though. Too short for center (6'7" with a 6'9" wingspan), and lacks the range for PF. Guys like Carino and even Demisana are better for the FIBA setting.

If only Kiefer is around 27/28 years old, I still would want him to be a Gilas prospect. But Kiefer is now 30 & will turn 31 in October. He obviously has already reached his prime & may be on his way down. I would rather try younger point guards like Panopio, Stockton or even Aaron Black.

Bro, what if Justin Arana has decent medium range jumper from 15 to 18 feet, would U consider him as a Gilas prospect?

Depends if he can guard the 4. I didn't clarify. He needs foot speed, considering his short wingspan and 6'7" height in shoes.

Would a Carl Tamato-type of foot speed/mobility in defense be good enough?

Yeah. At least stay in front of opposing fours, and maybe some wings when switched.

Hope we can play more games like this, like 4 more games vs. European teams after the OQT.

If AJ Edu, Iskati Thmpson & Jamie Malonzo wud be back for Gilas in the 2nd window qualifiers of the 2025 Asia Cup in November, I'm confident we will beat New Zealand.

Pag matalo pa tayo sa NZ sa November, I would be very frustrated.
I also want Gilas to beat NZL.. I still remember one poster here always mocking Gilas and Asian basketball as whole always saying NZL is always better than any Asian teams… I want him to put his mouth to shame..

He's 6'8 with shoes on,in the past 2 games it looks on the defense CTC put him against a 3,to bother the perimeter shots, this 2 games will be a test on this guy we will see if he can elevate his game so far.

Sir JAMSKIE and I were talking about Arana, not necessarily Carl.

As for Carl, let's see. He's been decent in Asian level. Let's see against Euro nations.

And it's not like Navarro or Tuffin is any smaller or shorter than Oftana. Magkasinlaki talaga sila.

Malaki na talaga improvement ng Philippine basketball when it comes to size/height at the 3 spot. About 5 to 6 years ago, we didnt have this kind of luxury.
Actually, we have depth now from 1-4. We're only lacking options at 5. Frankly, depth at 5 is a fat chance unless we have other eligibles like Kai, AJ, June Mar, and Japeth. OK na rin, since 1-4 are the positions we can realistically produce or recruit.

So there's similarities, the big difference is Carl has an offense from perimeter to post, maybe Arana needs to be eased in starting at the SEA GAMES level, nothing like a tougher competition to bring out the best from an individual.

Having a modern center or two works at the Asian level.

Outside Asia, it will be harder because Euro and African teams have size in all 1-5 positions.

Carl Tamayo from the onset has already perimeter shooting, can even hit it from 3-pt distance even when he was around 17/18 years old. Justin Arana on the other hand is strictly an inside player who rarely take/hit shots from medium range. But I think Arana should start expanding his game by developing a medium range jump shot from 15 to 18 ft. Hindi puro sa ilalim lang sya umataki. A decent mid-range jumper would make him a better offensive player & would also make him more unpredictable in offense. I feel he has the potential to have a reliable mid-range shooting, he just have to work hard for it.
